Dr. Wakefield has been helped by the medical establishment to protect him from disgrace. They closed ranks so that he is saved.

Dr. Wakefield published a research finding in the Lancet in 1998 that said that created a nationwide panic regarding Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Vaccine saying that it was associated with autism.

The authors of the research reaffirmed their findings again in 2004. Journalist, Mr. Deer blamed that the documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that there was a scramble to discredit his claims after he had raised the concern.

However, the medical journal BMJ said in a report on Tuesday that the examination into how the study was conducted was actually done under the guidance of the editor of the Lancet. Lancet is the Journal that published the article in 1998. It involved no "formal" investigation of the allegations.

The article published on Tuesday was the third and last in the series. It has called that Dr. Wakefield's study was a fraud and was done quite elaborately. They also accused him of having some commercial interest behind the scare. He was blamed to have planned for some business venture out of the vaccine scare.

After 3 investigations, Britain's General Medical Council ruled in January 2010 that Dr. Wakefield's research was dishonestly and irresponsibly conducted. In May 2010 the Council revoked Wakefield's license to practise medicine.
