Oh, how lucky for us that I was forwarded this important announcement in the knick of time! Let's all apply to win a trip to San Francisco! And grant money, too! All for helping to tell people (lies) about the unavoidable, widespread chemical imbalance known as depression and it's wonderful psychopharmaceutical treatments!

And you can even be a narcissistic jerk and nominate yourself! Just in case no one else has noticed what a wonderful quack you are!

Gee, I wonder if they will provide hookers and booze if the "award recipient" can prove he/she wrote more Rx's for Eli Lilly products than those from other pharma companies?

Purpose

Awards to fight the stigma associated with depression and promote the understanding that depression is treatable. Awards are made for the following categories: lifetime achievement, community service, destigmatization, primary care, and psychiatry.

Eligibility

Nominees for the 2009 Welcome Back Awards can nominate themselves as well as be nominated by someone they know. Nominations may be submitted by anyone wishing to be recognized for his or her outstanding achievements in the depression community or wishing to recognize someone else. Anyone may be nominated, including mental health consumers, advocates, physicians, research scientists, and employees of corporate, civic, or academic institutions.

Amount of funding

Winners will share a total of $55,000, to be donated to the not-for-profit organizations of their choice. Each award recipient and one guest will receive complimentary airfare and accommodations to attend the ceremony in San Francisco, Calif., in May 2009.
