Letter to ICSPP/ISEPP from Rita Di Carlo-founder Mind Aid

I want to share this letter with you--Eleven years after Mind Aid 2000--now that ICSPP has reorganized as ISEPP. RitaDominic,Just a note to explain something to you. The reason I did not join ICSPP is because 1. Breggin committed to speaking at the Mind Aid 2000 conference and then, after I advertised him as a speaker in Psychology Today, he renigged. 2. In spite of this Larry Simon, a Mind Aid organizer,joined ICSPP as a leader in cooperation with Breggin in spite of what Breggin did to Mind Aid. 3.I felt ICSPP fell short of its mandate of fighting psych abuse in cooperation with the Ex-patient/consumer movement by not truly respecting us and our role in the battle against psych abuse. 4. I feel the Jungian model does not have sufficient respect and is not recognized as credible in the psych profession, even among ICSPP members. I would like to see more of an effort to explore and incorporate the Jungian model. If that were done, there would be an alternative approach to psych which would enoble and elevate the transpersonal psych approach to 'treatment' to its much deserved position of spiritual validity, instead of having psychiatrists, many of whom are athiests, determining that the experiences of so-called schizophrenics are hallucinating, without any consideration for a possible alternative esplanation for their 'visions', prophetic abilities and intuitive reality. I say this with the thought of separating the pure psych experience from the drug induced or alcohol induced psychotic break. I have a problem with the practice of Office of Mental Health lumping these two distinctly separate problems under the same deparement. This practice is, in my experience, misleading and improper. I hope, under the newly named reorganization of ISEPP, that this reality will be explored and incorporated into your continued work. I am horrified that the organs of meditation and intuitive development are now being tampered with by the psych 'scientists'. The Amygdalla, the Pineal and Pituitary are sacred ground--the True Holy Grail of spiritual development and the portal to Self Realization and Enlightenment. Tampering with these organs and their secretions is tantamount to taking away the ability of the individual to follow this path. As a meditator and meditation teacher, I strongy object to any scientific experimentation with these pathways to spiritual development. You may share this note with anyone you choose, if you think my opinion has any value at all to your work. I wish you all success, if this is your mission: to stop psychiatrists and psychologists from destroying the spirituality of our people by tampering with their brains.Sincerely,Rita L.
