Guest guest
Hi, I would like to tell you about my experience with antidepressant medication: After suffering a miscarriage last sept, I went through a major depression and went to a psych who prescribed wellbutrin. It seems that estrogen in women is interrelated to chemicals in the brain such as serotonin and dopamine. Wellbutrin if taken as prescribed has fewer side effects and it doesn't affect sexual desire like other anti dep such as zoloft. It also will in fact decrease your appetite AT FIRST and you may lose a few pounds and if you smoke it is in the same class of drugs as ZOCOR which is not an antidepressant, but is used to reduce nicotine cravings b/c a lot of people who smoke are depressed and the nicotine gives them that " lift " . This class of drugs takes away that need to smoke to get that lift. I am still taking Wellbutrin b/c I think I may have been depressed prior to the miscarriage b/c of a chemical imbalance and it has worked wonders for me. Don't forget that chemical imbalances and depressive states can be like pondering which came first the chicken or the egg. In other words, sometimes a depression brought on my a life event such as a death, loss of a relationship, miscarriage etc, can trigger chemicals in the brain and chemical imbalances can be inherent as well. Like schizophrenia is a real disease so is depression and if it cannot be treated any other way then taking an antidepressant to at least get the energy needed to pull yourself up by your bootstraps so to speak, may be a good thing. I also exercise alot more and this works wonders in improving one's mood. With all the changes I've made in my life since being on W, my DR says that I should be able to wean off it gradually when I am ready (I am just about ready i think) as long as I keep up all the other good things I'm doing for myself. Antidepressants should not be a crutch. If you can get yourself back and exercise and take care of your body and spirit then wean yourself and still be good to yourself, they can work wonders. Depression is a real disease and those who doubt that it is are living in the dark ages. Antidepressants and buprion (wellbutrin and Zocor) are not for everyone, but it has really helped me and I'm ready to come off gradually and be drug free as long as I do the things necessary to not fall back into a depression. An anti depressant is not a cureall, but it can be a good way to find your way out of a dark alley. That's my story and I firmly believe in taking antidepressants as long as it is right for you. If you have a good DR, your DR will know if it is or not and what kind to prescribe. There are so many different classes. I hope this has helped someone on the list. There should not be a stigma about taking antidepressants for as long as needed as long as you help yourself as well. This is no different than cancer patients going through chemotherapy until the cancer patient finally reaches a state of remission or is hopefully cured. Thanks, S ps sorry for the wordiness and long winded message, but it is a topic that really affects me personally.

" However when people understand the underlying reason for problem drinking then deal with that first that sometimes solves problem drinking in itself. AA isn't for everyone. Sometimes people aren't physically addicted to alchohol so treatments may vary.

Guest guest
, was simply asking the effects on these medications for dwarfs and about the amount of people in the lp community who take them. Re-read before you assume she is saying dwarfs NEED anti-depressants, she never said that!
Guest guest
I too, take an anti-depressant. I take 45 milligrams of Remeron each night. I have also tried several different ones and Remeron suited me better than any others. However, Remeron does have some of the same ole' side effets. One of the reasons I personnaly, like Remeron is the fact that it has a sleep ingredient and it does not leave me groggy the next day. ) Tammy
