Guest guest
Along this line of discussion, I would like to pose a question to the list. I am often asked by children " why are you so short. " I was wondering how others handle this question. I have responded with many answers like: " This is the way God made me " ,,, " Because I just am.. " etc. I was wondering what others say when and if they are asked by a child why they are so short.
Guest guest
hey, that's a good question..I've worked at a day care for 3 years and all the kids ask me that. i've had many replies, such as " That is the way I was made " and then the kids have their own explanations...like Thats just the way God wanted me to be. I don't know if there is a correct way of puting it. It's going to be interesting to see who else replies...

Again, questions like that are not a problem, but not all the time just with celebrities we just want to be left alone and that in no way, shape or form means someone is rude, etcera. The only ignorance, rudeness is from a person (s) that display that behavior towards another. Ones in charge of children should teach them that everyone is different. It not only helps the person who is receiving the negative behavior it helps the child learn too. Helen

Guest guest
I try to go for the simplest explanation possible. as far as children go I say I have a disease/illness that made me short. and if the child is really young I say my bones didn't grow right . As far as adult explanations it depends on their IQ why are we short? > From: Drtowna@... > > Along this line of discussion, I would like to pose a question to the list. > I am often asked by children " why are you so short. Guest guest
Hi all, You don't know me but here is what I say sometimes to young kids. " When I was a child I had tried smoking and it stunted my growth-at least it stops that kid from ever thinking about smoking after I tell them this, right? Guest guest
My sister was working as a nanny caring for a bright 4 year old child. When I met the child for the first time, I sensed he wanted to ask me something, but was just too shy. After some coaxing from my sister he asked me if I liked milk. I said yes I love milk. You should have seen the dissappointment in his eyes after my answer. Suddenly his parents' telling him that if he drank milk he would grow up to be big and strong didn't seem very credible. I explained that my bones didn't grow like most people and that was just the way I was born. I assured him that milk is good for you and would help him to have strong healthy bones. I just thought I would share this.

Guest guest
I respond with the same thing( " This is the way God made me " ), during times of not being able to take the time to explain why I am short. Otherwise I take the time to tell a brief educational explanation as to why God made me this way with the ending of ( " Thats what makes you and I so special.. because we are different from one another. " ) Your friend Diane ;o) ---------- > From: Drtowna@... > dwarfismonelist > Subject: why are we short? > Date: Friday, August 13, 1999 1:31 PM > > From: Drtowna@... > > Along this line of discussion, I would like to pose a question to the list. > I am often asked by children " why are you so short. Guest guest
Usually I say the " That's the way God made me " deal. However, I will confess to my evil side coming out...just once...about 25 years ago. I was on tour in Europe, I had been asked the " Why " question way too many times that day; I was tired. My response to this poor innocent 5 year old was to tell him that I had been put in a trash compactor because I was " bad " , and that he should be good or the same might happen to him. I only hope the kid has received good therapy since then becasue he was terrified. I felt awful about it afterward....but have you ever heard that question just one too many times in day? I'm only human.... Kate in Michigan

By the way, how is Richie, Jasan, and Danny? Mom and I are doing well. She going to be a great-grandmother for the 4th time in Feb. 2000. I had a surprise 80th birthday pparty for her in March. All of her grandchildren were able to come. It was the first time the family got together. However, her two grandchildren from Seattle couldn't make it because of 's condition. Anyway, I'm so glad to see you back online. Take Care. Love, Dottie
