Hang on, can I ask a question about your question please? :-) WHAT, simple procedure?????????? O.k,, I'm far too old now, but I know a lot of parents of children needing their legs straightening. A public answer would be very much appreciated. Thanks Fred
Guest guest
It's not a very simple procedure, that's for sure! Amy had her legs done when she was 3, and it was spring, coming into summer. This is the best time of year to do something like that, IMO, because there are not a whole lot of things to physically do~ it's easier to stay indoors, and watch videos and color, stuff like that. I don't think the little boy will want to do a whole bunch of active playing, anyway. As she healed up, later in the year, she was actually insisting to go roller skating! She had some of those fisher price toddler skates. In our town, they had a preschool skate, and they played Disney soundtracks, the kids went around slow. Also, the moms walked on the floor, pushing baby strollers around the circle. Amy was happy with that, for a while! :S Then, because she was so headstrong, I finally let her do it.I asked the dr., and he just laughed!~ He had a taste of her temper! Other moms were aghast that I would let a child do that, and the comments I got! I would just say to them, " If you want her off the floor so bad, I cordially invite you to go out there and get her!! " No stoppin' that kid! But, as I say, that was quite awhile into the healing, and before that, she really just wanted to hang out! Guest guest
Oops~ I meant to say that RIGHT NOW, in the winter, is the best time to do surgery like that! I know it's not 'bone breaking' and I know of an eleven year old who had 'corrective' surgery which didn't necessitate 'bone breaking', but I, (and I'm sure a lot of parents), don't know, what this 'procedure' is. " My procedure did involve the breaking of the legs. I don't know the other variations of this so I can't speak of them. The surgeons went in & cut out a wedge-shaped piece from both tibias (the shin bone). After the break, they put the two pieces together and let the bone heal. After the 2nd procedure, they stapled the bones together at the break. Rose

I know it's not 'bone breaking' and I know of an eleven year old who had 'corrective' surgery which didn't necessitate 'bone breaking', but I, (and I'm sure a lot of parents), don't know, what this 'procedure' is. This was why I was after some sort of explanation to be put on the list. Please???? Pretty please???? Ta:-)))) :-***** Fred
Guest guest
Okay Fred...just for you. I've called Dr. Beals office and they are finding out what the procedure is. It may take until Monday for me but maybe somebody else knows. Karin :-? ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
I'm not sure if this is the procedure that was referred to earlier, but here's our experience... (9, achon) had a procedure done this summer called distal fibular epiphysiodesis, bilaterally. Dr. Beals did it. Basically, the surgeon makes an incision at the ankle and goes in and scrapes off some of the growth plate of the fibula. This is to slow the fibula growth so the tibia can " catch up, " and hopefully the legs will straighten out in the next year or two. He had it done on a Wednesday, we came home from the hospital on Thursday. On Friday he started pulling himself around with the military crawl he did as a baby, and on Saturday he was walking (and a little bit of running until I caught him and told him to SLOW DOWN). I was AMAZED at how quickly he recovered. Just our experience, Kirsi M. Re: Question... about the question > Okay Fred...just for you.
