I've been trying to find information on this myself - I have a joint problem

in one foot and I have just started taking glucosamine sulfate & chondroitin

(I'm an aerobics instructor who's determined not to quit). I'm not one for

supplements but I'm sick of the pain ! The genetic doc mentioned on our last

visit that it might be something our (then) 3 year old SED daughter might

want to take when she's older, for arthritis problems.

I think the problem is that extensive studies have not been done yet. The

studies that have been done have been small scale and were often funded by

the makers of the supplement. As well, there haven't been any before/after

xrays and such taken to confirm effectiveness in terms of rebuilding

cartilidge or improving joint function.

BUT ! I heard on the radio that extensive, scientific, nonpartisan studies

are scheduled to begin because of all the hype and the potential benefits

(missed who's doing it).

On the bright side - the supplements are made from bovine cartilidge & other

natural substances so they shouldn't be harmful (except on the pocketbook!).

The one I take is a GNC product with 500mg glucosamine & 400mg chondroitin -

3x a day. It supposed to take a month to see results (I've only been at it a

week). Alot of the studies have been done with these levels, but watch

because some have lower levels.

That's all I know ;-).
