With a squeamish question comes a slightly squeamish at at least one point answer.  This sounds very similar to what I go through when I either have not been consistent enough with my fiber intake or have been having dairy without taking lactaid.  How closely do you watch your fiber?  It is very easy to not get enough, especially on the Celiac diet.  When I have been slacking off and start having these issues, I start by cleaning my system out with some mineral oil.  I have found 1 tablespoon mixed in with a little applesauce and cinnamon to be the most palatable.  I start by doing it once a day and if I am not starting to move things through by the end of a week I move it up to one dose 2x a day.  You might want to wear a pad during this time since it can cause orange leakage.  For your fiber intake, I have found that i works best for me if I just get a good portion out of the way first thing in the morning.  You can try some of the fiber supplements, personally they just don't seem to do it for me as well as getting it from my food.  I get Bob's oatmeal or the flax seed muffins(10g fiber each) for my breakfasts.  With each bite of food, I take a big gulp of water to wash it down.  Without enough water, the extra fiber causes other problems.

You might also look at whether you are dairy intolerant.  The 7 day test is what I was told to try when testing for food reactions.  Have a lot of milk on day one.  Go off of it for 5 days and then on day 7 have dairy products all day.  You'll know if your body doesn't like it.

I hope this is helpful.  Good luck!!On Sat, Jun 5, 2010 at 2:13 AM, solanocountyceliacs707 <solanocountyceliacs@...> wrote:

This post is not for the squeamish and I apologize in advance for it's content.

For the last two years (100% GF, no CC) I have experienced the following with my bowel movements (BM):

I'll have light BMs for about a week, formed, and for the most part " normal " . As the week progresses my gut starts to expand closer towards my belly button and eventually it looks like the classic Celiac tummy or that I'm pregnant. Once the sixth or seventh day rolls around I get sharp pains in my intestines and even though I'll have somewhat of a BM every day during the week, it starts to feel like something is stuck up higher in my intestinal tract. Finally, there's so much pressure and pain that for about thirty minutes on the sixth or seventh day I'll be having a BM every five minutes. My entire intestinal tract has a sick feeling to it and when I am in mid BM my entire upper body (including brain) starts going through bouts of numbness and tingling. I will literally have issues thinking and looking upwards (feels like someone has dimmed the lights). In some ways it feels like an out of body experience. Finally most of the BM will have come out and I'll be able to rest for about 45 minutes to an hour till the sick feeling comes back and the rest of the BM comes out. The last part always comes out semi-oily and rancid in odor. Once that comes out, then I feel 100% again.

I'm in between gut doctors right now and am curious to know if anyone has dealt with this or is still dealing with this? Any recommendations of what this may be due to? Just to reiterate, I'm 100% GF compliant. My follow-up blood test for Celiac came back negative and according to my follow-up endoscopy and biopsy my villi look healed and there is no evidence of CD. I also had a colonoscopy which didn't show any abnormalities. The only thing I have not done yet which was suggested by my last gastro doc was to have a capsule endoscopy. I am currently seeing an endocrinologist for an enlarged pituitary gland/pituitary tumor (not sure if it's a tumor now). He seems knowledgeable in Celiac and I'm wondering if I should mention any of my BM process with him?

I know this is beyond icky and I'm sorry. Just not sure who else to turn to. Thank you everyone.

I watch my fiber intake to a point.. so in other words, it could use definite

improvement! You're a brave sole for using mineral oil.. I'll have to try that.

I had a bad experience with some Miralax last year and haven't been too keen on

anything that " cleans " me out.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to oats (regardless of CC or not). But that doesn't

mean I can't find another source of fiber. I've started eating quinoa again and

have already noticed an improvement.

I know if I have too much dairy it becomes a problem, so I have a very low

amount throughout a weeks period. I did try eliminating dairy last year for a

month and noticed very little improvement.

Have you had any issues with weight gain? I'm constantly struggling to gain

weight, stuck at 103 lbs right now at 5'4 " .. And if anything I usually fluctuate

down instead of going up. I believe this may be an absorption issue, but not

sure if it could be attributed to not having enough fiber?

Thank you so much for your input!! Oh btw, Diverticulitis runs in my family

too.. Have you had any issues with that?

Cheers,

C
