Guest guest
I had an episode of diverticulitis a few months ago, discovered during a scan done when I was admitted to the hospital for unrelated surgery. I'd never heard of diverticulitis. It probably was triggered by my other sudden illness. Afterward, I was told to always keep the appropriate antibiotics (Cipro, Metro for short) on hand. Two months later I realized I was having another episode. I was alone and far away from medical help, but I had the antibiotics! It took me about two weeks to recover, long enough for me to take this seriously in the future. My surgeon recommended using fiber powder daily as a partial preventative; he says he does. I always intend to take it, but it must be sandwiched between other medications, and that timing is complicated. I watch my fiber intake to a point.. so in other words, it could use definite improvement! You're a brave sole for using mineral oil.. I'll have to try that. I had a bad experience with some Miralax last year and haven't been too keen on anything that "cleans" me out. Unfortunately I'm allergic to oats (regardless of CC or not). But that doesn't mean I can't find another source of fiber. I've started eating quinoa again and have already noticed an improvement. I know if I have too much dairy it becomes a problem, so I have a very low amount throughout a weeks period. I did try eliminating dairy last year for a month and noticed very little improvement. Have you had any issues with weight gain? I'm constantly struggling to gain weight, stuck at 103 lbs right now at 5'4".. And if anything I usually fluctuate down instead of going up. I believe this may be an absorption issue, but not sure if it could be attributed to not having enough fiber? Thank you so much for your input!! Oh btw, Diverticulitis runs in my family too.. Have you had any issues with that? Cheers, C
