Guest guest
I have yet to try their gluten-free pizza; however, I had a nice conversation with the owner Pat. My original intention was to speak to Pat in regards to A Gluten-Free Fair.. Well, that actually turned into a very educational convo regarding their practice of making the GF pizzas. Pizza Pirate actually went through gluten-free cross-contamination training provided by Still Riding Pizza. They use separate utensils, pans, cookware.. everything is separate.. including the cooking process. Apparently they wont put a gluten pizza anywhere near a gluten-free one. They have all of their stuff color coded, he shared this after he stated that he was originally concerned about offering such a pizza because he was worried that the process would be too complicated to prevent people from getting sick. I appreciate his honesty, considering my amount of sensitivity to any amount of gluten. On the flip side, he did state that they no longer carry Still Riding's crust. They carry another gluten-free crust now from a larger manufacturer who also supplies them with their other gluten based products. Good news is, many gluten-free friends have tried their GF pizza and swear it's delicious and they lived to tell about it. Figured I would spread the word, just in case one of you wonderful Bay Area Celiacs got lost in my neck of the woods. Cheers, Crystal
Guest guest
My family lives in Antioch, but we have a few friends in Benicia, so we go to Pizza Pirate quite often. My 5 year old son is the celiac in the family, and he loves their gluten free pizza! He has never gotten sick from it. Pizza Pirate is one of his favorite places to go for gluten free pizza (even though we have 4 different places within 10 minutes of our house) partly for the pizza, and I think partly for the piate themed decorations!
