I would recommend Udi's Granola. I have found it at whole foods... several flavors and very yummyFrom: alisonjhughes25 <alison.j.hughes@...> Sent: Thu, July 1, 2010 12:11:01 PMSubject: [ ] 18 rabbits

has anyone tried 18 rabbits granola or bars? if not, can you suggest any granola that you like. i'm going to rainbow tonight, and i haven't tried any oat products since being diagnosed w celiacs in march...

the labels say "wheat free" and the ingredients do not contain anything with gluten...

this is what i found on their website under FAQ:

"Q: Is 18 Rabbits safe for people who can't eat gluten?

Although all of our products are wheat-free, gluten allergies vary and some people with allergies to gluten may find that they are also sensitive to oats. In general, our products should be safe for those with sensitivities to gluten; if you have gluten allergies and are unsure about whether or not you can tolerate oats, you should talk to your doctor."

Oats themselves don't have gluten, of course, but are very likely contaminated with gluten from shared processing facilities, fields, and/or delivery vehicles. I avoid anything with oats unless the oats are guaranteed gluten free. (There aren't a lot of gf oat products out there, as far as I have found.) So I wouldn't eat 18 Rabbits granola; their detailed explanation of the gluten in their oats is focussed on allergies and sensitivities only, and suggests they understand that their product is NOT appropriate for those with celiac - it is too bad (and a little weird) that they don't state that simply. I've seen an English brand of oat cookies that states outright that their product, while gluten free, is not okay for people with celiac...

You might want to try nonuttin granola bars. They use gluten free oats and I can vouch that the chocolate chip granola bars are great!http://www.nonuttin.com/usa.htm From: alisonjhughes25 <alison.j.hughes@...> Sent:

What I'd want to know is whether 18 Rabbits is made with GF oats or just ordinary oats.

I asked them about it and here is there response:Hello Michie,You are absolutely right, oats are inherently gluten free but our bars are not certified gluten free because they are milled on the same machines that process gluten.  You are also correct that Bob's Red Mill dedicates a whole line to making just gluten free oats.  The reason we don't use gluten free oats is because no one (including Bob's Red Mill) is making organic AND gluten free oats.  Unfortunately we had to choose between organic or gluten free and we chose organic.  So in short, our product is not gluten free.

Please let me know if you have any questions.-Zack
