Guest guest
We drove from south San to San this morning to check out the new g-f Zest Bakery. I was so excited to buy some g-f bakery items, especially their baguette because I was having spaghetti tonight. We arrived a little after 11:30 a.m., and I patiently waited in line with three customers ahead of me. The first thing I noticed was that there was hardly anything in their bakery case and only 5 baguettes were sitting on top of the bakery case. As each customer was waited on I was hoping beyond hope that there would be one baguette left for me! By the time I was waited on, there was one left and I was so happy! When I asked for the baguette, he said " I'm sorry, this one is being saved. " My heart sank because I was so looking forward to enjoying it with my spaghetti. Why did they put it out on display when you couldn't buy it for goodness sake! I looked in their display case and saw only a couple of small cookies and part of something that looked like a blueberry loaf. I said that I had driven all the way up from San and how disappointed I was that there was nothing to buy! The person behind the counter was not sympathic and just handed me a card and said to call first. Geez, it was only around 11:30 a.m. in the morning, they were opened until 3:00 p.m. and they had nothing to sell! Okay, that's my disappointment talking and I had to get it out of my system. I understand more than most people the problems and growing pains of a small business because we own a small business ourselves. However, I am going to wait a long while before I travel all the way up there again until Zest figures out their supply and demand issues and have a decent display of g-f goods to sell. I am so sorry for being a " downer " - just so disappointed. I will get over it. It's just that this disease isn't easy emotionally sometimes. Guest guest
You weren't missing out on the baguette. I got one the other day and it tasted like a french donut, kind of custardy and oily on the inside without the tasty goodness that is a donut. I threw most of it away--kind of disappointing after spending $6 a loaf. I've been there 3 times and each time I've been disappointed with lack of product. The first time I went the poppyseed muffins were delicious and warm still but I bought some the other day that must have been a day old because they were kind of hockey puckish. The cheesecake was delicious but other than that I was let down with the bread and found the owner almost defensive about the lack of product. I was slightly annoyed that I had driven from one city over to find the shelves empty. I'd be very annoyed had I driven up from San .JasmineFrom: CalicoSue <susan.hersom@...>Subject: [ ] Disappointment with Zest Bakery in San Date: Saturday, July 24, 2010, 1:15 PM We drove from south San to San this morning to check out the new g-f Zest Bakery. Guest guest
I had a similar experience there as well. When I went all they had was a poppy seed bread and some over-baked pecan butter cookies. The poppy seed bread was ok, but the cookies were too crumbly, (they turned to dust in the bag!) and they had hardly any flavor. I'm hoping that maybe it's because they just opened, and it will get better once they are fully up and running. > > From: CalicoSue <susan.hersom@...> > Subject: [ ] Disappointment with Zest Bakery in San > > Date: Saturday, July 24, 2010, 1:15 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > We drove from south San to San this morning to check out the new g-f Zest Bakery.
