Guest guest
Actually, there's a fairly detailed LPA budget breakdown in the new issue of LPA Today, which, if you haven't received it yet, I'm sure you'll receive soon. And I must say that I'm completely mystified over what the issue is. Printing and mailing a publication such as LPA Today is *expensive*! I haven't costed it out, but off the top of my head $30,000 for four issues sounds eminently reasonable. And though I have no idea of how much time puts into it, I'm sure that it's time-consuming enough that the $10,000 he gets would have to be considered paltry. Someday, the newsletter can be done entirely over the Internet and we can spend $30,000 on something else. Until that time comes, though, I think we're just going to have to live with the expense. I remember that the Database Administrator was the first paid employee on the LPA payroll. Is the LPA Today Editor the second...or did I miss something? I don't see evidence of either of these expenses or other expenditures mentioned in the Fairly Detailed Budget. Having served as International Correspondent for LPA I am sure that both of the above deserve the compensation that they receive. My concern is ... why isn't the membership allowed to see a more detailed discription of the expenditures required for this organization. When little pieces of information leak out about paid rooms and paid transportation cost, etc. the germination of distrust begins. I have been involved in regional budgeting and planning, so I understand the hard work. The general membership needs to know where their money goes.
