Guest guest
Yer, we've all experienced it. We get mistaken for folks who look absolutely NOTHING like us, except for size! Today I accompanied a fellow LP to the hospital. We got our priorities right - straight to the coffee shop:-) Over here, they are run by VERY old volunteers. As I approached the counter, I asked the old biddy for a coffee. Straight away she asked, " Did you get your newspaper alright? " I looked at my friend, he looked at me, and we both said, " Wonder who else is here today! " We thought no more about it, and eventually saw the surgeon. In the conversation, he mentioned that he was doing his FIRST neck operation tomorrow on an Achon ! He asked my friend if he knew about his condition, remarking that he generally found that Achons know more about their condition than HE does:-) Such is the power of both the internet AND sharing of information within our LP community. Next down to x-ray. Sitting, sitting, sitting as you do, and another Achon walked past in the corridor. I charged out, and stopped him. First thing I said to him " Can I talk to you? " Well, its become a habit now, when I meet other LP's to ask that. Simply because experience has taught me that just because you are BOTH LP does NOT seem to infer any God given right to speak to them! I have experienced some pretty hostile reactions. I asked him if he got his newspaper! You should have seen his face! We got talking, and he said he was in for an operation. Oh, I said, its YOUR neck he's going to work on. YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN HIS FACE:-) Now, bearing in mind, we have never ever met. We got talking and it was surprising the number of other LP's we all knew. Small World, small world:-) So, please, in your prayers, say one for our fellow LP who may, in one sense be a stranger, but in another, he is one of us, going to go through one hell of an operation tomorrow. Cheers, Fred
