Guest guest
Dear Gang: First, I knew this would happen when Francis , the leader of the genome project, achieved this goal. Second, I know Francis personally (have worked with him), and despite the fact that most reporters mention the fact that there is NO-ONE more worried about the ramifications of this great work than Francis is, people still panic. The primary purpose of the genome project is to help end suffering and I can tell you that from the beginning, one of Francis' main concerns has been " what evil ramifications can/will come out of this? " He has always been concerned that the speed of scientific discovery is outstripping our ability to wisely and ethically codify the appropriate uses of those discoveries. I, for one, believe in the genome project and I believe the positive effects of this knowledge are endless. Yes, so are the potential negative effects, but my point is don't let fear rule your view of this great work. By the way, Dr. is one of the kindest, most caring people I've ever met. He is an exemplary doctor, scientist, educator and humanitarian. He is also, down-to-earth, funny and just plain nice. -the compact Marty
