My husband is staying home with the five girls (and meeting me there when the conferance is over and we will start our family vacation from there). I have never been to any thing like this I am involved with our local support group and our local Buddy Walk so I am excieted to learn more on the national level and meet others from different areas. Guest guest
True. That's why I refused to take them past menopause, even though my gyn doc wanted me to continue, even nagged me to continue. I understand there are " natural " products on the market now that do not pose as much of a threat. granny --- " Setting a good example for your children takes all the fun out of middle age. Guest guest
I don't live there but I had a friend who lived there for 8 years and have stayed down there on many many occasions. I'm about a 2-hour drive north in L.A., where it is 80 degrees and sunny today! If " winter " keeps up like this, YES it will be warm enough for the beach for you! LOL GO and have a great time - it is BEAUTIFUL there. Go to Coronado Island, go to Old Town, go to Sea World, and if you want to see the entire S.D. Zoo, you'll need 2 days to do so - it is HUGE!!! It's really super nice though. I love it there and can't wait to go back this summer (or sooner). Have a blast! > This is completely off topic, but I'm just so excited! Guest guest
Oh my gosh, 80 degrees??!!! Now I am really excited! 2 weeks isn't enough time for a bikini for me, but I can do a bathing suit. In the past the wait to cross back over the border was maybe an hour...now that 9-11 happened they are checking more throughly and it is horrendeous. Keep this in consideration when you go. You could always just walk over and it would be faster getting back. Personally I don't think it is worth it.... Pat
Guest guest
Hi ~ Exactly what Pat said. You can take the little red trains from SD to the border, then you walk over. It's very simple. To just go to TJ, I'd definitely walk as opposed to driving. And you can get some cool, cheap things! JMO. ) in So Cal brillosa@...
Guest guest
YOU SUCK!!!!! I LOVEEEEEEEEE SANDiego!!!! OMG, I think San Diego is the most beautiful place in the WORLD! Better than Italy. ((bleah)) but I've never been there in the winter, but OMG, its beautiful during the summer. Depending on where you are from, hell it might be warm enough to go to the beach in Feb! I'm sitting here in 30 degrees so I think a nice 75 degree beach would be nice... ~kimmah San Diego This is completely off topic, but I'm just so excited! Guest guest
Our ped said that Bryce's head would "round out on its own". i noticed when he was about 2 weeks old that he would only look to one side. I brought it up and was told that it is normal and that he is still "stretching out". When I went to the 2 month appt he said something about the neck and gave us a one page handout for exercises. Again said "totally normal". he commented on Bryce's flat spot and said that "all babies have flat head these days b/c of the back to sleep campaign. Again he said no worries. he even said that "Bryce is a textbook 2 month old...flat spot and all" I called the ped at the 3 month mark to express concern abt the shape of Bryce's head and the asymmetries that i was starting to notice with his eye. Again I was assured that this was normal and would self correct! At the 4 month appt the ped commented on his head and used the words "severe plagio" for the first time. he went on to say that it is normal and that it will "round out on its own". He gave me a referral to PT and told me to perhaps try this therapy called cranial sacral therapy. He went on to say that he has only put one kid in a helmet in ten years. he gave his opinion that the helmet industry is a "money making operation" and "they put every kid in a helmet that they see". I started Bryce with Cranial Sacral therapy and paid out of pocket $150.00 initially and then $65.00 twice a week, only to be given false hope that Bryce was not going to need a helmet. I finally got him in PT (took about 2-3 weeks to get an appt). I had found this group and started to do research on the topic of plagio. I self referred to cranial Tech, but was still unsure if I was not giving Bryce enough time for his head to "round out on its own". Well, before I went to Cranial Tech, I had my first appt with the PT lady. She took one look at Bryce's head and said..he is probably going to need a helmet and he needs one now. I was mortified!!!! I felt helpless and guilty that I had not done everything in my power to avoid the "helmet route". I was extremely mad at my ped!!!! I went to CT and they told me that he was 21mm assemetry and needed a helmet. i found my insurance would not cover CT , so I went to Scope. it took me a long time to make the decision, b/c Cranial Tech has such a good rep and they are "supposed to be the best". I struggled with the whole "am I getting the best tx for my son? Should I pay the $3700.00 for the helmet at CT?, etc. I finally decided to go with Scope and was referred to the Kearny Mesa clinic. By the way, they said that his asemetry was 18mm. Bryce got his baby blue helmet and we decorated it the same day. he is sporting the CARS theme. We have Buffalo Sabers stickers on the way for when we want to make the change. we are from Buffalo originally. Bryce's pic in under the "B;s" at the end. There is the before pics and day 2 pics. Are you going to the same Scope? Are you seeing Ellie? Ellie is really good. I notice a difference in Bryces head already...if you can believe that! Keep me posted on Dylan and send pics when he gets the helmet. Now Bryce will know of one other person in SD with a helmet. I swear he is the only one outside of CT and Scope. Let me know if you have any questions. --- Original Message ----From: cdm11382 <cdm11382@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Friday, May 30, 2008 9:39:43 AMSubject: San Diego Our ped first notcied Dylan's flat spot at his 3 month check. We couldn't see it before because he had so much hair. We were told to just keep an eye on it and it would probably round itself out. Our next appt was at 4 months and we were told to take him to an Occupational Therapist for his tort. We couldn't get an appt until almost a month later. After a month of repositioning and tort exercises we were able to resolve the tort but there were no changes with the flat spot. We were told that it was now up to us whether or not we wanted to do helmet therapy or just wait it out. We were really upset because out of the 4 doctors we saw, none of them would say yes you need it or no you don't. After joining this group and reading everyone's positive stories we decided to proceed. I just couldn't live with myself if it got worse and I hadn't done anything about it. Hopefully Dylan will adjust well. He is a really happy baby and usually goes with the flow anyways. He will be 7 months by the time he is in the helmet so I hope he still has good results even though we waited so long. I just wish the doctors would have pushed us to do something at 3 months rather than wait.I am glad to meet someone from San Diego too, especially one that is going to the same place as us. Guest guest
I am going to the same Scope. I am not sure who we are seeing though. Hopefully it will be Ellie since you have so many nice things to say about her. My Dr. sees 5 babies a day for helmet referrels but he also said that CT was a company that was out to make money. He also said that they often have their babies get a 2nd helmet. My insurance doesn't cover any of it. I am with Kaiser and they consider it Durable Medical Equipment and I have no coverage for that. I saw the pictures of Bryce and he is absolutley adorable. I actually looked at his pictures a few days ago and the one with him smiling is the one that made me decide to go ahead with the whole process. At Scope do they have different color helmets you can get or did you have to paint yours. I want to do a sports theme. > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > I just discovered this board.. Guest guest
Thank you and I am glad that Bryce made you decide to "take the plunge" with Dylan and his helmet. It is more of an adjutment for us as parents. The stares, questions and the reasons people THINK that our babies are in helmets make you wonder sometimes what is wrong with people. Bryce is a great baby and he hardly ever cries and sleeps good. I thought that the helmet was going to change that...based on some of the stroies that i read online. Honestly, besides having to clean it every night, nothing changed! He has been teething, so that has been a little rough. He has been sleeping in the helmet since day 2. he wore it for like 3 hours and the first day, b/c our appt was at 2:30. After trimming and fitting, he got the helmet on at 4pm..and he goes to bed by 7:00. On day 2, we did the checks and kept is on the whole day. He was doing so well that we decided to try the night and he did AWESOME. They look so cute in the helmet. That makes it easier. I remember when I was at CT tehy told me if you are going to do the helmet/band, whatever...do it religious and be consistent (23hrs). That is my plan. As for the designs, i can't remember if they have sports. Wait, I do remember seeing a soccer one, but I can't remeber if that was something that someone made. They do have firetrucks, racecars and others. We choose a lt blue one and just put stickers and modge podge (they will tell you how to decorate). I am not creative and I was nervous to just get a blank canvas, but I think that it came out good. Plus, we can chage it up if we want. My hubby actually decorated the helmet. The patterns are nice too , becasuse you dont have to do anything. You also can get a white one and paint it. That is definitly out of my and my hubbys skill range...and I heard that the paint chips. So you have to strip and repaint. They have about 30 plain and patterns or so to choose from. We were told that Bryce will probally be in the helmet for 4-5 months. You will have to let me know what they say for your baby. I am REALLY hopeful that is it shorter. His head already looks better....so I am praying. Keep me posted. I know Ellie does most of the helmets at this office and there is a part-timer that takes the overflow. A friend of a friend of mine saw her, I think her name is . She got good results too. I was referred specifically to Ellie Boomer. I ran into someone at CT that called the Starband headquarters and they specifally recommended Ellie. Ellie has been doing helmets for 6 years and does 30-50 a month, depending on the demenad. I used to have Kaiser, but switched to BCBS. I soemtimes wish I had Kaiser agian. I think I need a new ped for Bryce. Re: San Diego I am going to the same Scope. I am not sure who we are seeing though. Hopefully it will be Ellie since you have so many nice things to say about her. Guest guest
Hi there, my son is nine months old and just got a star band helmet through this scope location three weeks ago. Ellie just left the company a couple of months ago and we have been having mayjor issues with the helmet. We have mostly been seeing julie, have you heard anything good about her? > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > > > I just discovered this board..
