How do you cook this bacon so that it doesn't resemble thin cardboard in texture and taste? Yesterday we hit the mall to get a new shelf unit for our DVD's and at Bed, Bath and Beyond we saw a machine that shreds ice cubes to make those snowcone flavored ices we all know and loved as kids. If we weren't pinching pennies right now I would have grabbed it for $30 and just added some fruit juice instead of the sweetened flavored syrups they had. Better yet, frozen fruit juice shredded up. Our city had no senior troop at that time so that was the end of it. Girl Scouting was always such a seond rate activity in this city, and now it's so bad in the entire area that the council our city belongs to covers about half the state. > afternoon of the trip down there and do some shopping in the area. That's something the GS's never did in this city - camping trips. Even the Boy Scouts only had one troop in the whole city that ever did it. Their " Jamboree " every summer is always down one of the parks. I think last year there were only about a dozen tents. >>They take their training seriously. Well duh! Guest guest
a, I do know Indian fry bread. Quite yummy. Hate making it though. I really, really hate to fry anything. I make tempura about once a year because I hate to fry...and the thought of all that oil. One thing I am working on for my meal planning is to prep on the weekends. Like arrange everything for Monday's dinner for example. I get all the materials together, weigh and measure what I can and store what I can't all in one spot. So when Monday comes around I can pull everything out and cut down on the prep time. I don't know if I am making any sense at all, it is 1 am...and I have know idea what I am doing up... Guest guest
, I have heard the term Tempura, but really don't know what it is. I will have to do a quick search to find it in a few I don't like to fry either, but do on occasion. I actually ended up with a second degree burn on my had a cuople of years ago due to trying to fy. The oil boiled over and I tried to move the pan off the heat, and well.... lets just say it wasn't a pretty picture! I understood what you were saying about the prep thing I don't do much of that.. I'm to lazy.. LOL I tend not to think much about a meal until it is time to make it, and sometimes I'm a bit off on my timing. Not so much having everything done at once as not having it done when my husband wants to eat. He is a real GRUMP if dinner isn't ready by 5pm. Oh well, he won't starve to death if it's a few minutes late. Well, it's going to be a busy day! I gotta get my exercise in, finish mowing the lawn (riding mower), 2 open houses and grocery shopping, not to mention cleaning the house and my evening mile... which may not get done today.. Oh well.... grocery shopping will make up for that right? LOL Have a good one all, and Yep, I'm off to do my morning mile! a (who was up late, but NOT on the computer

It's just fried shrimp but in the lightest crispiest batter, not like regular American fried shrimp. It's served with tempura veggies. Yum! Now you have me craving Japanese food. In a few weeks when my little one is in mothers day out and my older one is taking some summer classes I'll go there for a treat. I made the pecan chicken last night and it was yummy. Even my older daughter said it was ok and she doesn't like anything. > done when my husband wants to eat. He is a real GRUMP if dinner > isn't ready by 5pm. Tell him this isn't the 1950s and you are not June Cleever. Just put whatever you have on the table at 5pm. If that happens to be frozen chicken and an unopened can of beans hopefully he'll stop complaining. > Well, it's going to be a busy day! Sounds like you are going to be very busy. I'm going to be working on my older daughter's loft bed. It's coming along nicely but I still have a lot of work to do. I think we'll have leftovers tonight and tomorrow I'll cook Thai red curry in the crock pot all day while we're at the water park. It's 9am so I'll start getting things set up outside. I don't want to start using power tools too early since the neighbors might be sleeping in. > (who was up late, but NOT on the computer That counts for exercise too. Guest guest
UGH poor you! I feel for you. My MIL cooks a lot of stuff like that everytime we eat at her house. She knows my husband likes the high fat, high calorie foods and doesn't get it much here, well at least not as much as he'd like. So she alost always make fried chicken with milk gravy, mashed potatoes and Caesar Salad...then mention how I shouldn't gain anymore weight! So I end up eating as little as possible and go home to eat something better for me. I love her dearly BUT she is over 20 pounds underweight and when she cooks she cooks stuff to help her try to gain! Any way hope your visit was fun. Blessed be,
Guest guest
One more thing. I've been planning my meals for weekdays all at one time. I thin put in all the food I will eat each day into fitday. It may take an hour or 2 all at once but it does save time and stress along the way. Blessed be, Meal planning > Menu Planning, me too, though I did really well today :)Not for us. It was our weekend to visit Ed's ancient aunt, and because shesaid she had no food in the house she asked us to bring dinner with us whenwe spoke on Friday. So yesterday morning when we did our grocery shopping Igrabbed not just our food but fixings for a meal with her, plus a few otherthings I knew she needed until she hit her own store again. Before we left Igot the stew cooked up so when we got there all we had to do was reheat it abit. But when we got to her house and opened the door Ed and I immediately lookedat each other and said Uh, oh! The oven was on and she had a few pots goingon the stove. Our nice healthy stew was going to be put away because sheforgot she told us to bring food and scraped together a meal from packagedgoods she found in her pantry and buried in the freezer, all sorts of stufflike overly-salted cheesy mashed potatoes (that she added even *more* saltto), ribs with some kind of sauce poured over them that then dried out inthe oven because she heard that ribs tasted better when cooked for a longtime, sauerkraut to which she added "bacon fat and lots of specialflavoring" to, a package of popcorn chicken that she melted cheese over to"pep it up" and a few other goodies like these. And no veggies. She heard on the tv that "some kind of vegetable wasinfected and could kill you" and the talking head on tv said to throw itaway, so she threw out all the vegetables she had in the house.(sigh)So, we divided up the stew we brought into single servings and popped themin her freezer for meals during the week and we were forced to eat the mealshe prepared. I ate a few pieces of that chicken, scraping off as much ofthe cheese that I could, pushed some pieces of ribs around on my plate untilshe left the room and gave them to Ed, and ate some of the potatoes until mytongue felt like sandpaper from the salt. She already planned to go grocery shopping with her friend today so shepromised to restock her freezer & 'fridge with veggies again. When we got home the boys had burgers and I ate some rice and veggies - Icouldn't stomach anything else after that meal. This morning when I hopped on the scale I was up 3 1/2 pounds since Friday.See how badly my body reacts to salt?I have to get some fasting lab work done in about an hour, and when I gethome I can take my meds, including my water pill. I'm sure all that weightwill be gone by tomorrow morning, especially if I treat today as a sort ofdetox day and eat only rice, fruit, and veggies. Tomorrow I can get back onmy regularly scheduled meal plans.Sue in NJ
Guest guest
wow, that reminds me of my great-grandmother who i lost two years ago... i really miss her and it made me remember how she felt so proud to be able to serve a meal out of what she could scrape up. Some of it... or alot of it, depending on the day was stuff i'd NEVER eat... but Granny loved being able to provide a meal for faimly and especially in scraping together something. thanks for tha memory jog.. and even though tha meal was a lil nasty, it's kewl ya'll got to visit and to give her several meals throughout the week. > > > Menu Planning, me too, though I did really well today > > > Not for us. This aunt is the same way. She was always on the super-thin side and frequently tells us the stories about her father then her husband trying to fatten her up with tonics and egg creams. She gives no thought to calories but eats anything she wants. Gosh, I wish I could live a life like that! LOL

Guest guest
Cara, Congrats on having goat cheese as a possibility! Additional possibilities Breakfast: Cornmeal mush/polenta fried polenta Leftovers regular pork sausage (no garlic) chebe bread cinnamon rolls Fruit/fruit salad Hot coco Millet, quinoa or teff (or a mix adding rice or cornmeal) as hot cereal with nuts and dried fruits Frittata Strata homemade sausage Lunch leftovers sliced meats (on bread or not) rice pilaf polenta Dinner other fish thin sliced then roasted veggies (we had eggplant, squash and tomatoes last night) try a new veggie once a week til you have used every one in the store Why Sonya only or Shana only? added intolerances? I didn't see sweet potatoes. Meal planning just gets old. Make up a monthly plan and then do it for a couple of months in a row if you can make yourself do that. Meanwhile, surf the net for ideas - try ethnic cuisines that don't use much or any wheat/dairy/soy. South East Asia, South America seem to fit this best. South Indian as well. I use coconut yogurt to replace cow's yogurt in Indian food and don't use the chili or pepper cause I really don't like " hot " . Good luck!
