Guest guest
Hi Barbara, I suggest HealthNOW Medical Center in Sunnyvale, they're great and know all about gluten and celiac disease as the two owners co-wrote a book " The Gluten Effect " . They have nutritionists, MD's, naturopathic doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists all under one roof. Check out the website. They even offer free consults so you can see if the office is a fit for you. http://healthnowmedical.com/ Good luck! Delancey > > I'm newly diagnosed (May of this year) and I'm not happy with my existing general GI. I've been to the Stanford Celiac " clinic " but is seems to be just one doctor who only works part-time. After my visit to the Stanford Clinic, I receive no recommendation for follow up and had to pester him for weeks to get test results. So that doesn't seem to be a good option for getting quality long-term care. > > I am looking for an MD or DO. Guest guest
Delancey, Again, you need to state that you work for them. This is patently deceptive. I would not put my health under the care of any office that has questionable ethical practices. Iscol > > > > I'm newly diagnosed (May of this year) and I'm not happy with my existing general GI. Guest guest
, Again, I was not trying to be deceptive. Yes I do work at HealthNOW but I'm not on this group for my job, I am gluten-free myself and like hearing about places that offer gluten-free food, etc and am here for personal reasons separate from HealthNOW. Additionally, I like helping people and so when I saw Barbara's post below, I did think of HealthNOW not just because I work there but because I know first hand how many hundreds of people have benefited from the care they received there. I simply offered HealthNOW to help her, so that she can check it out and decide for herself. She asked for suggestions so I gave her one. Thank you, Delancey > > > > > > I'm newly diagnosed (May of this year) and I'm not happy with my > existing general GI. Guest guest
Barb, Stanford has a good past reputation for Celiac disease care. But if the staffing does not meet your needs, there are other good choices. Depending upon exactly were you live, Palo Alto Medical Foundation - Mountain View Office has a number of very good board certified GEs. Mine is Jay Laidenheim, and I recommend him highly. PAMF has automated medical records, so you can see your lab results as soon as your doctor sees them. Your doctor will also quickly email his/her evaluation of the tests. PAMF management has implemented customer satisfaction criteria, and that results in fast notification. I've heard that people are also highly satisfied with the celiac care they've received from Santa Clara Kaiser. But I'm not with Kaiser, so I can't give you more than generalities and what I've heard. Hopefully, you will locate a GE that can take good care of you. Guest guest
I totally agree about Health Now. I went there and the " doctor " who isn't a doctor mentioned at least 6 times that I should buy the book he wrote. I highly recommend Dr. Aron at Pacific Medical Group in SF. He's a gastroenterologist who specializes in Celiac Disease. > > > > > > I'm newly diagnosed (May of this year) and I'm not happy with my > existing general GI. Guest guest
Delancy-I concur w/ 's comments. It's fine to post and recommend HealthNow events and doctors but when posting please just mention : "BTW I work for HealthNow". That's it. If you're not willing to do that then please stop recommending HealthNow. You may not intend to be deceptive but by not being up front about that in your posting, you are- even if you think you aren't. In fact, by not being up front it actually casts a negative view on HealthNow for me because I feel like you are trying to the board into coming to see your employer- and I know that is not what you intended. They are doing good work there and I'm sure the last thing you intend to do is make them look shadey - the more people who are gluten sensitive or celiac and get diagnosed, the better for those people and for us.Also re: comments on buying the HealthNow doctor's book - I have it on reserve at the library and I'm picking it up today.Jean
Guest guest
I totally understand and see your and 's point of view. You are right, I definitely did not mean to make it deceptive or shady but I do see now how it could come across that way, and I will definitely include that I work there from now on if I mention HealthNOW. Thanks and enjoy the book. > > Delancy- > I concur w/ 's comments. Guest guest
I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to all who responded to my posting and who emailed me separately. I really appreciate this forum. For someone like me who is newly diagnosed, it's a godsend! Thank you! Guest guest
As a final note, Delancey, I believe from your responses that you had no deceptive intent and I'm impressed by your ability to quickly understand the issue and ready willingness to adapt your posts. Many of us on the list have some nonprofit or business connection to the gluten-free world and we want to interact freely. If there is any conflict of interest or even the appearance of a conflict of interest, it's a good ethical practice to disclose it. For example, when doctors give talks or publish research they must disclose any financial interest in any related product or business. It protects the integrity of the profession. As indicates, when it comes to medical professionals in particular, it's a good business practice as well. As co-director of North Bay Celiacs, I've received many deceptive emails by individuals recommending the companies they actually own or by which they are employed. There are a few signs I've learned to recognize. It always reflects poorly on the business, regardless of intent. As a side note related to someone else's reply, my comments were not intended as a negative judgment of HealthNow's medical care, only of the practice of promoting the business in that way. I was describing how promotional practices might impact the thinking of a prospective patient. I have never been a patient there and therefore cannot comment on their medical care. But I can say I have not been impressed by their promotional practices over the last couple of years, unrelated to Delancey. And to me, the incident reported by that former patient -- a medical practitioner during an appointment repeatedly encouraging a patient to buy his book -- is troubling. Finally, though I understand that doctors of chiropractic legitimately may use the title " doctor, " I personally find this confusing and therefore also somewhat deceptive as people do tend to assume they are medical doctors. From one member of the community to another, Delancey, I sincerely wish you only the best, including a successful career, and look forward to reading any future posts. - Iscol > > > > Delancy- > > I concur w/ 's comments.
