Guest guest
Hi Chanel, Nulytely contains PEG-3350 (polyethylene glycol), solium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride. It doesn't contain sugar or sweeteners but they do add a few different flavors (your choice). It is clear (no coloring added). I don't fully understand how it works but I'm guessing the PEG-3350 prevents any absorption of the fluid through the stomach or intestines, so it all just passes through. The doctor's office told me I could drink a little peppermint tea with it if I wanted to. It probably doesn't make much difference as you have to drink a gallon of it in a 3 hour period. I didn't eat for about 6 hours before I did the prep. I had some water and tea occasionally. I think the instructions specified no food for 3 to 4 hours before the prep, but I went a little longer. At the time I wasn't on any special diet. I was pretty hungry the evening of the prep but not shaky. I did feel weak the morning of the procedure. I was sedated during the procedure. I ate lunch about two hours after it was done. Zack On Thu, 20 May 2004, chanelkline wrote: > > Hi Zack, > The prep is exactly why I am having such a problem doing the procedure. Guest guest
Hi - I'm going to have a colonoscopy soon and am wondering if anyone has had a prep that entails less that 1 gallon of drinking solution. I could swear that preps I've had in the past had preps that were a smaller quantity of solution. Thanks, Margaret

After that failure, I was told to use a phosphosoda laxative. There are some people who should not use a phosphosoda laxative, so check with your doctor before using. On the plus side, the phosphosoda laxative is over the counter, and much cheaper than the gallon prep. The about.com page on colonoscopy has a sense of humor about the prep process: http://coloncancer.about.com/od/colonoscopy/ht/ColonoscopyPrep.htm --Ruth Anne
