Guest guest
my 1st pick for you would probably be plant cafe. right on the water on the embarcadero, they label their menu precisely with gf and veg icons. they always have a great tempeh entree, and nice starters like mushroom spring rolls. i like the embarcadero/pier 3 location. i wouldn't think of it as being a " chain " though they do have more than one location. http://www.theplantcafe.com/ i just recently tried zadin in the castro. fantastic meal, though i am a meat eater. they did have a GF tofu/eggplant dish on the menu. http://www.zadinsf.com/ asquew grill just created a GF menu, and they have some decent veg options. cheaper than the above options. they have quite a few locations, but they are a small local chain: http://asqewgrill.com/ cafe gratitude is a raw vegan restaurant. they are also 100% gluten free in their SF location. they also have a sister restaurant, gracias madre, a 100% vegan taqueria. they are not 100% gf, but they are very gf friendly, and all their tortillas are corn. http://www.cafegratitude.com/ http://www.gracias-madre.com/web/ and pica pica maize kitchen, 100% gluten free, relatively inexpensive, venezuelan restaurant. counter service, fairly small portions, but very tasty. personally, i had a little trouble digesting it, but i don't do that well with corn. it's 100% gf, so i'm sure it wasn't cross contamination. http://www.picapicakitchen.com/ oh, and dosa! south indian. yum. http://dosasf.com/ okay, i'm going to stop. i've reviewed some of these places on yelp, here's my yelp gf list: http://www.yelp.com/list/gluten-free-dining-san-francisco have fun!
