I have been taking B12 supplements since May due to high MCV (a sign of B12 deficiency), but am still feeling very anemic when I exercise, like I have no strength at all. Has anyone else experienced this? I've heard some people need B12 shots. If anyone has tried them, do they help? Thanks,
Guest guest
This is useful information. Thank you! I have a genetic mutation (MTHFR) that limits my body's absorption of the B's and folate. When I was pregnant (I finally was able to get pregnant after cutting out gluten from my diet years ago--we'd been dealing with infertility for years) I learned I had this mutation and ended up needing to take Folgard, a prescription stregth folate, B combo. I'm going to talk to my doctor about putting me back on it. Guest guest
Hi - I had issues with B12 and went through a 6 month period of getting intramuscular injections of B12 which brought up my levels. After that I went on a 3 month period of a nasal version and I haven’t had a problem since (I do get my vits & mins monitored once a year to be sure.) I’ve had issues with iron/anemia and had to take the liquid version of iron (BLEH!!!) instead of the pill. In addition I was on prescriptions of vitamin a, folic acid and vitamin D (was having calcium issues.) It’s been 2 years since I’ve needed any of that and I think it’s b/c I’m healed and properly absorbing nutrients. But I wont rule out ever having to go back on something…it’s important to monitor. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi , Being Celiac has made me extremely anemic, actually one of the reasons how I found out I had celiac. My blood levels were so low I had to go to the ER, but since then I have been on an extra 650mg of iron a day. Before I started taking iron, i was extremely tired at the end of the day, during work outs, and would get very close to fainting when it was hot outside. I can definitely tell the difference when I take it and when I don't take it for a few days. They do sell it over the counter in amounts of about 300mg so I would try adding that to your daily vitamins.
