Re: Zest - anyone have a reaction?

I stopped going there because I get really sick to my stomach after eating there, too. I get a reaction similar to when I'm glutened but not quite as bad so I'm wondering if there's something else I'm reacting to?

I finally made it down to Zest and was thrilled to order lunch and go home with a bag of treats.... Unfortunately I wound up gassy, constipated and exhausted. It's been 7 months since I have had such a reaction, so assuming it was in the food.

I haven't called Zest to ask about specific ingredients - all were to be G-free, no risk of cross contamination. As noted in previous discussions about Pica Pica, never certain to point a finger ~ thought I'd check here - anyone else?

Thanks

Has anyone who's had a reaction at Zest actually spoken to the owners? Since they do not use any gluten ingredients, (1) one of their ingredients has been contaminated in the manufacturing process; or (2) they bake in a non-dedicated-gf facility; or (3) people are reacting to something else. I think it's important to figure this out by speaking directly to the owners of the bakery. Looking forward to hearing more.

Sorry to hear about the bad reactions, gluten-related or not it's a drag to have food make us sick!

Sent from my tin can and string. Please excuse mumbling and static.

One of the owners has celiac. It's a dedicated facility. I haven't

had any kind of reaction, but I'm only sensitive to gluten.

You should call and ask them about what's in what you ate. There may

be something you're not used to eating. Guar gum provokes reactions

in some people, for example. And my son is one of the few gluten

sensitive folks who cannot tolerate oats.

Yeah I'm really thinking it's something else that my hypersensitive gut is reacting to.

My kids frequent Zest weekly, and often more than that. NEVER have they had any reactions.

Your reactions sound similar to something on the gluten free girl blog. She

attributed her reaction to xanthan gum and guar gum so possibly it could be

ingesting a quantity of baked goods with the " gums " as she calls them, made you

have a reaction. I don't know if they use them, but it is found in a lot of

gluten free products. You might ask next time if they have anything without

those ingredients.

Something else to consider - their 'treats' while delicious are incredibly

sweet.

Most of us with food allergies and sensitivities have some serious gut dysbiosis

and adding sugar on top of that situation produces what you are talking about as

well.
