Guest guest
Carbs put on weight, whether they are low glycemic or high glycemic. If someone does not eat all day long, one's body goes into starvation mode, so when she eats a lot at night, she stores away carbs as fat. Also, if she eats snacks before bed, she does not wake up hungry, so has no interest in eating a good breakfast. If she wakes up hungry, she will eat a bigger breakfast. If she isn't going to the bathroom all day, she is probably chronically dehydrated. It might be better for her if she made water be her only beverage, and she drank drink it all throughout the day. BTW, I have observed that being overweight has little (if anything) to one's genes, and a whole lot to do with bad eating habits that one learns from one's parents. Guest guest
Sorry maybe should clarify a bit more. low glycemic isn't nesissatily low carb, it's just how fast food turns to sugar in your syste we eat a low load ( meaning over all in meal not index only eating low #'s) eat a lot of fruit, veggies, whole grains, have fish once a week. at home maty order it IF we go out. she has had hot luncha lot lately, but ussually we send her with Daddy made whole wheat bread, all natural pb and jelly that is only fruit no perservs or sugar. orange, or apple juice again pure no add ons, ( she RARELY finishes the bottles) a small bag of whole grain gold fish , and a pear apple or banana. comes home to whole grain cookies made with whole wheat flour, oat meal and honey no sugar. we don't eat white flour, potatoes,, rice or sugar or subs. we only sweetend with fruit or pure honey. Daddy does allow her white poattoes when we got o KFc it's the closest thingwe gett o fast food on a no choice basis we are hungry and no other easy alternitves are availabul. though we know how bad that place is though feel since it's chicken and on the bone it can't be as bad as the so called burger joints. ( I still don't believe that is hamburger EWW) but we only eat that maybe once every 6 or 7 weeks. She loves ovaltine so that toois some what sparringhly as it is high in iron. they get molasses treats as ell for thier iron and manna bears for vitamnins tha uses sugra cane not real sugar. he does drink alot when home. probably not nearly what she needs, but always has at least 3 glasses back toback. she love sto play out side. though unfortunrtly I don't so that is somethinG ihope to change and get us out side more. She loves to just eat celery with pb or cream cheese. and i have a jack lalane juicer and she loves fresh juices from there. compared to probably 90% of her school she is pretty healthy. though i am takingthat number out of hat as I have o ide ahow opther s eat, but statitcs I doubt toomany eat the way she does. she hates bread and sweets for the most part. always asks for dessert but pineapple is a good dessert. with coconut. for awhile last summer ( 06) we made our own coconut milk and didn't drink cow milk really. but canno longer find coconuts around ere very annoyaing. but she is 5 and could wear a traijing bra. with all the hormones in cows and meat in general,i just get soo nervouse. they say no news is goodnews, but id on't want to nor anyone iknow or love ( or don'yt know) to die a secret seath because theyd on't know they are eating a poisiones food that ahs been advertized as healthy. ;( there is a ton of different diets outthere and ways of eating and life styles but sugar aka HFCS isn't good for anyone. I guess I am on a soap box becase my best friend is having chemo tomorrow and is due iwth her 2nd baby in June her oldest is 13 m. and my gramma is ina hospice center . I just don't know how to help my daughter without giving her a dispostion . so whatever we change will be a family change if it helps one it can help us all. Guest guest
Whether carbs are digested slowly, or quickly, they are still carbs. If she is gaining weight, try cutting back on all carbs. Fruit and honey can all be converted to body fat. Some fruit is good (unless one is a diabetic) but fruit juices and jelly made from fruit is much more high glycemic than eating fruit. Juicers remove all the fiber and increase glycemic index. Does the peanut butter you use contain added sugar? I would suspect snacking between meals may be socking on the weight. Guest guest
Some things you say I don't agree with like the myth of saturated fat being bad. juicers are actually good. You make me sound like I feed my child junk. when i said we don't eat hfcs or white sugar, no the peanut butter is justthat smooshed legumes period. sometimes add sea salt. thereis nothing wrong with eating al day. we don't promote 3 meals a day. She is never hungry enough for breakfast, even when I bf her she didn't want a morning time till about 10. or so. yes somethings we eat are higher glycemic than others we eat, but as i said we look atthe whole load not individual items. and since when are carbs bad? it's empty carbs that are bad? Just curiouse how old are you? if you don't want to give age, are you young miother, grown mother, grand mother... ( or father) I really can't tell from your name what gender you are, as Shalom is also both genders, ( very popular boys name in isreal)but i think you all know I am female. Guest guest
Juicers are not bad for everyone. But for people who are accumulating excess weight, they have carbs but no fiber, so the glycemic index is not as good as eating whole raw fruit. Eating all day may be fine for some people, but for those who are gaining weight they do not want, it is (I feel) worth looking into before one goes to doctors who will probably suggest dangerous drugs. If one is not hungry in the morning, that can be an indication that one is eating too much too close to bedtime. I know a number of adults who shed pounds simply by not snacking between supper and bedtime, then making breakfast their largest meal of the day. Just suggestions to try. I sure can't know what is good for someone else. I am a 63 year old man. I used to weight 270 pounds. By stopping snacks, cutting out carbs (both high and low glycemic) and not eating too late at night, I reduced my weight to 180 over 2 or 2-1/2 years. My weight has been stable at 180 for over 4 years now. Guest guest
She doesn't snack after dinner. we tend to eat around 6:30 and she is ussually asleep by 9. goes to bed at 8. (9 if we're lucky) I agree one shouldn't have calories after a certain time i have read people feel anywhere from after 6 to after 9 at night. i think it just depends in your life style. wateri s good at any time of the day. i just have a hardtime getting it down her. where as Talia our 3 yer old loves bread and water and well I can only thin of 1 thing she doesn't like and that was my far out splurge on cheesecake yesterday. she spit it out. on some levels strage since she loves cream cheese so much, but she has never been a fan of sugar. Anyway. hopefully we'll figure this out. thanks for your concern asnd suggestions. Shalom Re: 5 year old problems Juicers are not bad for everyone. Guest guest
You might want to have a complete thyroid and adrenal saliva test panel done on her. I have read that the inability to be hungry for breakfast until mid-morning is a hypothyroid symptom And low cortisol can result in high estrogen. It really sounds to me like she could have either, or both. Have you had her fasting blood sugar tested? Not wanting to eat or use the bathroom at school could be physical in nature, or it could be behavioral--is she being teased about her weight? sol P.S. Your diet does sound extremely high carb to me, but then I have to stick to veyr low carb, with lots of animal protein, and fruit is a very rare treat for me. I'm sorry if it offends you, but your diet would make me very ill. Shalom wrote: > Some things you say I don't agree with like the myth of saturated fat being bad. juicers are actually good. Guest guest
not offended at all, if my diet worked for everyone a lot of people would be out of work, differences make the world go round. She just isn't always hungry and constantly going bathroom at school, no that she isn't just no more or less than average. beginning to be sorry i brought this up.
