Guest guest
I have, many times. My cholesterol started out quite low, so you may not be able to compare my experience to yours. My LDL (bad cholesterol) has gone up quite a bit, but my HDL (good cholesterol) has gone up much more. My HDL has gone up from 55 to 118. The Framingham heart study never saw a heart attack in anyone whose HDL was above 70. My HDL is extremely high. The total ratio is what counts (total cholesterol divided by HDL). My ratio has gone down: from about 2.6 to about 2.2. Even 2.6 is very low to start with. An isolated LDL value is not significant. I have this straight from my very mainstream doctor, as well as from all of Bruce's excellent material. Mainstream thinking about cholesterol is apparently starting to change. VCO will help keep the cholesterol in the arteries from oxidizing. It is the oxidization that creates hard plaques, stiff arteries, and heart attacks, not the cholesterol per se, which is a substance created by the body to repair things. People who had cholesterol too high often find that their LDL goes down after trying VCO. Guest guest
I think you might be missing the point here a little . . . if you're taking coconut oil just for the sake dropping weight, most likely you need to just quit taking it and start Weight Watchers. You're not really concerned with improving your overall health, just with shedding pounds. If you really want to improve your overall health (which is obviously ALWAYS going to lead to weight loss, though it might be slower than you want), it's going to take more than just adding coconut oil to your diet to achieve that. It's going to take a lifestyle change. Your weight might temporarily go up or not change much at all while taking VCO - it's not a quick fix, but it's definitely a healthy alternative to many other fats. As for the cholesterol, not sure if you've read the past few posts about that, but your cholesterol going up (even, " bad " cholesterol) is not always a bad thing. One of the most informative websites someone here posted about that topic was this one: http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james23.htm Thank goodness my husband read that article just before a doctor's appointment where we was prescribed a statin drug. Now he's taking the natural alternatives recommended in the article and trying to slowly change his diet. - On 10/16/06, jacqueline33875 <jacqueline33875@...> wrote: > > i am very scared!! i do not need to gain any weight or have my > cholestrol go up. is this for real? can you actually lose weight > with added 32 grams of saturated fat everyday? does your cholestrol > go up??? help!!! > > > -- ^^^^^^^^^^^***************************** " New Baby " is 11 weeks old!
