It's not the coconut amino acid one that is presently on the shelves. Does anyone remember the name of it & who makes it? I need to ask them to reorder. Thanks, Jeannie
Guest guest
If you are looking for soy and wheat free alternatives to soy sauce, many asian grocery stores carry black bean sauce. It's often labeled as 'wheat free soy sauce' in English, but the Chinese lettering “黑豆†(hei dou, or black bean in English) will be on the bottle and the ingredients in English will say " black bean, water, salt. " Here's pics of the bottles for a couple that I found: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sanbeiji/476789274/Cheers,JoeOn Tue, Feb 22, 2011 at 10:51 AM, Harper <flatcat9@...> wrote: Two very good ones are: Wan Ja Shan Naturally Brewed Organic Tamari Wheat-Free Soy Sauce San-J Organic Tamari Wheat-Free Soy Sauce I like Wan Ja Shan best, but the difference is one of personal preference. Guest guest
I'm sorry -- in reading quickly I thought you had written that you were looking for a GF soy sauce at WF, when actually you were looking for a soy-free soy sauce. My apologies for carelessness. Guest guest
In general, I've found WF receptive to ordering items to be bought individually in the store, rather than by the case. I don't know if that would work for everything, but it has for the things I've wanted. Guest guest
Very interesting - I had no idea they were a soybean variety!Cheers,JoeOn Wed, Feb 23, 2011 at 11:39 AM, Cheri <cheritc@...> wrote: I will second this information regarding " black beans " in Chinese cuisine. I am a student of Traditional Chinese Medicine and I know that what is generally translated as " black beans " means black *soy* beans - a variety of soy beans. In our Materia Medica they are referred to as " dan dou chi " and are indeed Semen Praeparatum Sojae (Latin is helpful). Joe is correct in his translation, and if you follow the translation on this website, they clearly identify it as black soybean. http://www.nciku.com/search/zh/detail/%E9%BB%91%E8%B1%86/15701 I'm soy intolerant and was sad to find out this little fact as I loved fermented black bean sauce.
