Hi Anne,

No, Black Horehound (Ballota nigra) is not the same as Root Beer. It may have been used in Root beer and may still be used in some Root Beer. It is listed as an Anti-emetic, sedative, mild astringent, emmemagogue, and an expectorant. I would think you can try it but sedative is quite a long ways from mild calming.

This herb is also very good for helping nausea caused by inner ear problems and or the CNS (Central Nervous System). Just don't confuse this with White Horehound (Marrubium vulgare) cause they are quite different in action.
