T-day food: pies!

Whole Food’s Frozen crusts work well, but they sometimes run out, so buy ahead to make sure you get one. Watch out on the calories for the WF crust: 270 a slice at 9 slices per crust! A good alternative is a pie crust mix. We have used GF Pantry in the past. I’m not usually a mix person, but after years of trying different pie crust recipes I gave up and got the mix. I plan to make my own pumpkin pie filling and then use a mix or make the crust from scratch. I've heard good things about the WF crust. Is that the way to go, or do the bakers here find it worth it to make their own?-- Kathy SchrenkBoard MemberRestore Hetch Hetchywww.hetchhetchy.org._,___

They are in the freezer section…I picked up some last

night in the Capitola store. They were in the case with all the other

Whole Foods bake house products, breads and Crave items. I was going to pick

up the ready-made Crave Pumpkin Tart pie (I bought it last year and liked it)

however it was $21 and I couldn’t justify it. So I bought the pack

of 2 pie crusts for $6.49, pumpkin puree for $2 and condensed mild for $2.50 (I

have all the spices at home)…way more affordable. It will be my

first time trying this pie crust, hope I succeed!

Where do you find Whole Foods GF crust? Is it

pre-made in the freezer section or a mix?

Thanks for the recommendation!

I make my own. I developed it based off a friend's wheat-free recipe.

I really like the Farmer's kitchen pie crust. I don't know if its available online, but it was really good, flaky, and dairy freeViviana ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Viviana Acevedo-BoltonStanford UniversityCivil and Environmental Engineeringvivianaa@...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"los hermanos sean unidos, esa es la ley primera, que sino los devoran los de afuera..."~ FierroFrom: Jodi Apelt <jodiline@...> Sent: Tue, November 16, 2010 6:08:05 PMSubject: Re: [ ] T-day food: pies!
