Guest guest
Just saw on another celiac group that a Famous Dave's BBQ just opened at 61 Curtner Avenue in San . They do not have a gluten-free menu that I know of, but do have a Food Ingredient Information list (I had them e-mail it to me at the beginning of the year) where it spells out exactly what the ingredients are in each item they have on their menu. We ate at the Gilroy location earlier this year, and our wait person knew what gluten was and what the cross-contact issues were. This new location on Curtner Avenue in San just opened, so they are probably clueless as to what gluten is or what even what the word " cross-contact " means (even though a lot of their menu items are g-f), but we sure can try to educate them. I have emailed their corporate office to ask if there is an updated Food Ingredient Information list (the one I have is dated 3/26/10). I also pointed out that celiacs and gluten-intolerant people can bring in a lot of business because we do not dine alone - our family and friends will only eat where WE can eat. I also asked them to educate their staff on what gluten is and the cross-contact issues involved. I had a great meal of a country roasted chicken, coleslaw and potato salad. A loaded baked potato was another option. I didn't get sick after I ate (which might not mean anything). I don't think any of their meats are g-f (just the chicken) and only a couple of their BBQ sauces are g-f (Texas Pit Sauce and Buffalo Sauce - no gluten or barley mentioned, but there is artifical flavor which might have something?). I stuck with the country roasted chicken because it sounded safer. If Famous Dave's response to my email is in any way favorable, I will let you know. The " usual disclaimer " - eating out is risky.
