southern california trip questions

My other half and I are headed down to southern california in a few weeks and I

was wondering what you would recommend we pack/take with us for the car trip.

I'm one who usually prefers to fly, but we thought this would fun.

Other info: We both love to snack. We try to stay lower carb. My parents have a

cooler we can borrow. We're staying with my aunt along the way (night one), at a

small hotel in Venice Beach (night two) and two days in San Diego with friends

before we all leave on a cruise together.

We're also going to spend two days in SD after the cruise, not sure if we're

staying with friends or going to hotel it...

So, my questions:

1. What things would do well packed in a cooler?

2. What else would you take along on a road trip?

3. There are lots of places that appear to be gf friendly in San Diego. Do any

of you have first hand experience? (I know we're doing Sammy's Woodfired Pizza

one night...)

4. When I google, I see different things - does anyone have experience with the

Zoo and gluten free foods?

5. Food ideas in Venice Beach? I haven't been since I was a kid.

Thanks for reading...

Hi Carla – If you and your family have time, I suggest heading over to The Sensitive Baker in Culver City. We bought a bunch of products on the way back from the Natural foods Expo and are quite enjoying the tasties. They are a GF facility with vegan and casein free options. They are only 4.5 miles from Venice Beach and are worth the trip. Pizza Fusion has the BEST GF pizza I have

EVER had! You MUST try it while you are down there.

As for road food, my son and I love cold

cuts, mustard, and crackers. We just pull over at a rest stop, pile up a piece

of turkey, salami, or pepperoni onto a cracker with a drop or two of mustard

squeezed onto it.

We did this during that heat wave when it

was 115 last summer, and everything kept.

We have also found that salads DO NOT

keep, even in cooler weather.

If you need to stop for food in LA, Pizza

Fusion is about 20 mins off the freeway down Sunset. Let me know if you need

directions. I am pretty good with that part of LA.

(I’m pretty sure they have Pizza

Fusion in San Diego,

too).
