Don't know if you can get your gp to refer you to Ashford Hospital (Middlesex) but Dr Naqvi the endo there does prescribe T3 as he prescribed it to me.

You are most welcome Kate, good luck and I hope that you can get this referral for your mum - take everything that you can to this endo but remember he is not an armour man at all - he was recommending to my GP to prescribe it but it all got too much for him to learn and he then refused to recommend it any more or to see me and I had my prescription reduced by 2 grains per day as they are looking at the amount I am taking rather than the bloods - typical isn't it, it took them years to diagnose me and would not do so until my TSH went over 10 (took 5 years to get from 8 to over 10 as well) but when it comes to bloods now, they are looking at a TSH of 0.01 and running scared.

Because the endo refused to recommend it any more the surgery had a meeting and decided to reduce me to 1.5 grains a day not 2 grains (I was taking 3.5 grains) but I am adding the additional myself Sheila, there is no way that I could function on less than my optimum at the moment. Yes I am thrilled that I managed to get through Christmas without feeling so totally exhausted but then I was treated well by my friend who invited us for the day, her dad did all the cooking, I just made a pudding in October and carried that across to her - heaven. I cannot remember a time when I actually felt so well to be honest and I have only just thought about that whilst writing this email - it just seems to sneak up on you and suddenly something triggers inside your head and you actually realise that you have a life again.

Without the information that I received from the group and yourself Sheila, I would most definitely not be as well as I am today that's for sure, I did know that armour existed but I had no idea about being able to get it on prescription so for a year it saved me an absolute fortune but I am just waiting for April to come and will then pick my own endo to go visit and get back onto being prescribed 3.5 grains again.

Hi nne

What amount of Armour are you taking now. Are you managing on the 2 grains your endocrinologist recommended or are you supplementing this by purchasing more yourself? I know you are feeling much better these days and thinking of returning to work. Such news is like music to my ears.

Hi nne,

Do you know if he also prescribes armour & preferably treats adrenals as well? This is not too far from me, and I am desperate to find an endo who will "prescribe" both & is fairly close.

Can anayone else suggest an endo I could get referred to? I live on the Cambs/ Herts border but I am happy to go out of area if required.

My endocrinologist is great with understanding subclinical thyroid issues--he

looks not only at your blood tests but at symptoms that persist despite the

" right " dose of Synthroid. Becker, (415) 681-7707. He's hard to get into,

and he doesn't take insurance, and he's quite expensive--all significant

barriers. But I went to other endocrinologists who said I was fine when I was

decidedly not fine, and he figured me out and helped my quality of life

immensely. I don't have celiac (just the gene, and a non-celiac gluten

sensitivity, and a celiac child), so you might want to talk with him first to

see if you think he's the right doctor for you.

Good luck,

Marci

Subject: [ ] Good endo?

Does anyone know a good endo who REALLY understands the gluten/thyroid

connection? I'm so tired of seeing docs who tell me since my tests are fine,

I'm fine. I don't feel fine and I have had massive hair shedding. I'm celiac,

gf and on 175 mcg of synthroid.

Any good docs at Stanford?

Jill,

I have a REALLY good doc down in Los Gatos. His name is Dr. Cook. He is a reproductive endocrinologist, and while he does treat primarily women with endometriosis, he understands the whole gluten thing very well, because most women with endometriosis cannot tolerate gluten. He is the one who found my hypothyroidism even when everyone else said I was fine. Recently, when I suddenly began having thyroid issues all over again he had me take some labs, which he said looked fine. The next works out of his mouth were: "But how about I treat you and not your labs." He is really great about about actually LISTENING to what you say is going on with your body.

He does take insurance (though he will be out of network), and since it is the beginning of the year, you will have to meet your deductible before they can start billing the insurance company. But he is very easy to get into and everyone in the office is great.

His name is Dr. Cook. His website is www.drcook.com People fly in from all over the world to see him. He is the ONLY doctor I trust. He will also test other parts of your thyroid that most docs won't.

He's a really great guy.
