Guest guest
Well, there's always Ensure. It doesn't taste as bad as you'd think. I gagged at the very idea, but found it relatively palatable, when chilled, when I had to be on a liquid diet for a couple of weeks before surgery. Protein powders were reasonably easy to eat, also. I had a very hard time getting most "allowed" foods down, after the first few days of them. I noticed an ad on Real Simple yesterday for a baby food cooker; you put in, say, a cup of green peas; it cooks and purees the food. I thought at the time that providers for the elderly might find it useful, as it prepares a small amount at a time and seems to have easy clean-up. Perhaps a barely sweetened version of eggnog? Is he in his early teens? Best wishes. My first challenge has been to find liquid medications he needs that are gluten-free. Liquid ziithromax (antibiotic) appears to be gluten-free, but the doctor wanted to prescribe Lortab elixir (liquid vicadin), but that appears on some lists as containing gluten. Another list said it was gluten-free. I can’t seem to find a web site for the manufacturer. Anyone have any experience with Lortab elixir or other liquid pain relievers? The second challenge is to feed him a liquid diet for 6 weeks. Anyone have any suggestions beyond putting soup through the blender or making smoothies? Thanks, Pam
