Guest guest
My son and I ate at Moaz recently and while we enjoyed the food very much; as we were finishing our meal we noticed another customer who had ordered a pita sandwich (I don't know what the item is actually called on the menu.) What the customer receives is a pita bread (made with wheat) with some lettuce on the bottom and then they can go through the salad bar adding whatever ingredients they choose to their sandwich. So there is the customer holding his pita bread over all the containers of "gluten free" offerings and using the tongs from each container to add the ingredients to his sandwich, and then replacing the tongs into each bin of ingredients. I don't know whether he touched the tongs to his pita bread as he put in the ingredients - but it sure seemed like a possibility that many customers would. I was so disappointed after my initial excitement at finding this restaurant; knowing that my family members cannot safely eat here after all. So my personal take on this restaurant is to say it would be good for people who have mild allergies - but not for people with severe allergies or for celiacs who need to avoid cross contamination. How sad! :-( The food was delicious, however, for those of you who can safely eat there. ----- Original Message ----- From: j. hogle Celiac Bay Area Sent: Monday, August 30, 2010 11:02 AM Subject: [ ] Fw: RE: Gluten-Free & Web site - Maoz Below is a nice response I received from Maoz restaurants headquarters re food prep and cross contamination. Basically, it looks like they are conscientious, but my severely CS wife has decided to not go because of the "slight chance of cross contamination."
