Ok so I had a similar experience today as posted earlier.

I was on the bus today ...( for those who do not know me I use a scooter

for extended mobility and our LA transit is wheelchair accessable)...

This older lady got on the bus and I could tell she was going to talk to

me. How did I know?? She had " that look " and she was carry religious

paraphernalia. Sure enough as I am trying to avoid eye contact she says

to me, " Are you disabled? " I smiled and said ... " only when I need a

cheap bus pass " . Her face squinted up and she asked me again .. " Are you

diabled? " . After realizing that she didnt understand humor I replied

back " depends how you look at it " . She then proceeded to bombard me with

questions. The people around us all looked like they wanted to punch

this lady but they were amused at my responses. When she asked if my

husband was a little person and I told her that he was 6 feet tall she

almost fell over in astonishment. She then asked if we had any kids and

I told her I had 2 step kids. " So they are your husbands kids then? " ...

I said well, yes. She then says to me ... " oh you probably wont have any

of your own kids. I looked her straight in the eye and told her that we

WOULD be having a child together someday and we are taking every

opportunity to practice! She finally moved farther back on the bus.

A few stops later ... I hear a man getting on the bus say , " The bus is

like a good woman, you wait long enough, eventually one comes along " . He

was a talkative fella. He of course saw me and made a bee-line. He said

to me looking at my scooter... " oohh another fast woman in Los Angeles,

want to give me a ride? " . He jokingly then said, " Ill come near you so

you can protect me from the thugs. " . I just smiled and nodded. He then

leaned down to me and said (in a whisper) " ok so I learn something here,

what is the medical terminology for your situation " . I was kind of taken

back but appreciated the fact that he wanted to get the appropriate

term. I told him dwarfism was the medical term. He smiled and nodded and

started yacking to some of the other people on the bus.

I tell ya.... never a dull moment on public transit.

Hi Sandy, well I'm so glad Bre managed to find an " up " side to that

(exposure). Although I imagine it might take a while before she again

believes you about anything, LOL!

Gees - I hate when kids are treated like this in school. Sometimes they're

made to feel like they live in a bubble & are being scrutinized every second.

Not that I don't agree with dress codes, just the way they're enforced

sometimes. You know, had that happened to an adult in a work place, it would

never be tolerated....privacy, public humiliation, self-esteem, etc., are

always

taken into consideration.

I love your observation that using the techniques learned for OCD can be

applied to other circumstances in life. That's great to hear.

's enjoying school so far. His bad thoughts trouble him a lot

at home, but he seems to be getting all schoolwork done and likes his

classes. I do think his OCD interferes re school/work but he's

managing.
