Guest guest
In regards to the ATM MACHINES. Being a FORMER BANKER that has gone through SEVERAL TAKE OVERS, ( GENESEE BANK, NATIONAL BANK OF DETROIT and now BANK ONE ) in the 20 years that I was with them, they will tell ask you if they can help. If you know them they will BEND OVER BACKWARDS for you just to keep your business know matter how small or large your account is. I know that I've seen people in wheelchairs come into my bank and the service rep or teller will make an effort to help out. Not all BANKS will provide that kind of service. And NO I'm not saying that ALL banks will do that for people with disabilities. If you've been doing your banking with that branch, it might help to get to know ALL the tellers and service reps and VOICE YOUR CONCERNS whether it's regarding ATM'S, CHECKING or SAVINGS ACCOUNTS, BANK LOANS or whatever. I still have problems trying to SEE the messages that come across the little screen on the machine when I walk up to one that is outside and I'm 4'8 " tall. I have ask the the SERVICE REP inside the branch for help and have NEVER been refused. All they will do is assist by putting my ATM card in the machine and while I do my transaction, they will turn there head so not to see your transaction being done. When your done, they will reach your card and slip and ask is there anything else they can help out with. I've even ask why they don't LOWER the machine and they say it's the BIG BRASS decision in the CORPORATE OFFICES. So what I would do is get the name of the REGIONAL PRESIDENT'S name and phone number and call him to voice your concerns. If that doesn't work, then ask for his BOSSES NAME and do the same thing. By that time someone should get the MESSAGE. Hope that helps from a FORMER BANKER. Guest guest
Hello all, My name is and I also work for a financial institution actually the 4th largest in the United States. Approximately 12 years ago I wrote a letter to the ATM commission asking that they lower the level of the standard ATM to enable persons with short stature to use the machines. I indicated to them that even though a person in a wheelchair maybe able to reach a standard machine, that there were many others that did not have the same height of that of a person in a wheelchair that could not access their monies in the machine. I also informed them that yes one could always wait and ask for help from someone that might come along but that would not only be an inconvenience, but also a security risk for that person. They were nice in their response letter to me, indicating that yes they had received other complaints, but lowering the machine would make it too easy for children to vandalize the machine and the expense would be great. So where does leave us, I feel that LPA on a national front should band together in order to get the machines lowered. Another alternative would be to ask your bank to install a stool in the under carriage of their machine if possible to help you access their machine. Or there are many banks now that have offices in store front locations that are open longer hours and have more of a personal touch for their customers that might help the cause. The only bank in California that has made an effort to lower their machines is Bank of America and for this I have written a thank you letter to thank them. So, yes it's time for LPA to stand up and fight. Who will join the cause.
