Guest guest
It appears that I overstated the calorie content of my THICK Soup. The difference is probably 250 calories!!! Instead of 2166, it is likely more like 1920 calories. The problem is with the calorie content of the chicken stock. I took the calorie content of the only 'chicken stock' listed at Fitday. But realistically how could four cups of clear fat-free chicken stock contain 346 calories? Having checked other sources, none of which lists simply and unambiguously 'de-fatted chicken stock', it seems that at most four cups would contain not more than 100 calories. Sorry for the error. ---------------------------- This raises another issue. The nutrient content of the 'Thick Veg Soup' listed yesterday may be related in part to my earlier post about not feeling hungry on 1750 calories. Think of it this way. If you were to try to consume the entire recipe all in one day (I challenge someone to try it!!!) and nothing else, you would still only consume 1920 calories. My guess is most people would feel 'stuffed' if they managed to get through even half of it in a day. That would be about 960 calories. I do not recommend that, however, as it is essentially 100% vegetarian and not properly balanced, despite its diversification. If you were able to consume six cups of it - THICK soup - you would have consumed about 480 calories and, I suspect, would have some difficulty finding room in your stomach for another 1270 calories to bring your daily total up to 1750. These numbers are so impressive it makes me wonder if there are other errors in my calculations! I don't think so, however. As I went down the list the numbers seem to make sense: 2 potatoes 232 calories; 2 medium onions 84 calories; tomato paste 144; 3 broccoli stems 96; 1.2 cups of grains, buckwheat and lentils 573; .............
