Guest guest
Apologize for not jumping in sooner (on this topic) - schedule has been quite busy. Most / all current children with " Autism " / , have reactive immune system, and in term various expressions of allergies. ANYTHING that cools down those allergies can be helpful (since the allergies kick up the immune system, in tern increasing the brain shutdown " fog, " Usually the first step should be removal of offending items (foods), then there is a selective place for antihistamine, cromolyn sodium, etc. for additional control. As reflected by some of the conflict re " antihistamine " response, any agent must be individualized to that child. I use antihistamines at night frequently to help control PND, but I do not look upon them as a primary agent in dealing with " Autism / " per se. Hope this helps, MJG Re: Digest Number 46 from a nonparent, who used to teach l.d. kids: some doctors find that cromolyn sodium helps with the mast cells releasing histamine, which happens in not only the g.i. tract but all over the respiratory tract too. THIS ISN'T a regular antihistamine, it has a different mode of action - ask a pharmacist for details. theoretically, if the mast cells can be calmed down and release less histamine there are less symptoms. not sure about brain symptoms, but there can be less diarrhea in g.i. tract, and less sneezing & inflammation of sinuses, lungs too. ask a pharmacist. they know. ____________________________________________________________________________ ___ ____________________________________________________________________________ ___

Guest guest
I called Ben's Sp. Ed. teacher last night and asked her if there were any Language Masters (card readers) floating around the district. " Oh yes- I have two if them " . I swear I'm going to tell her that I will be her end of year cleanup person and see what else she has hidden in her classroom. Of course, in my district they've had Intellikeys that no one there ever learned how to use. I gave demos from my home but no one used it. (Sorry- getting into a little rant there.) Anyway, she sounded genuinely enthusiastic about trying some cards with him. Don't know how things went today- she had it out when I brought PB back from his dentist's appointment. I'll probably ask about borrowing one. ( By the way, he did great at the dentist's- didn't make himself gag, didn't flip himself out of the chair, and actually talked to the dentist afterwards. I brought along two little vibrators for him to hold during the cleaning- it worked out really well. And no cavities! But he was bad at school before and after the appt. There's always a price that someone has to pay...= ) Haha- I ran into the SLP's office because the aide had picked up a kiddie shopping cart for PB to use in there with her own money. The aide and the SLP were collaborating on PB's food words that he was going to need for PECS. They had saved up empty food boxes and cartons, and had started a game with him whereby he said or ID'd the PECS card and he got the food item to put in the basket. Anyway, the SLP asked me to ID the food words that were most practical for him initially. Needless to say, I was chuckling over the timing, since we'd just covered some of this on this list. When I think about the ideal educational setting for PB, money and resources be damned, I imagine a dual program. I'd love to see him get intense one-on -one instruction from whomever would have the skills to teach him- for reading, math, and language. And then included for everything else, with adaptive materials provided by the Sp. Ed. teacher. I'd like to imagine age grouped kids, of, say, ages 6-8, 7-9, 8-10, etc., for all - general and special ed-, whereby kids could progress at their own pace to cover certain materials. (More like High school where kids can choose their classes.) Then within these groups of kids there are SP. Ed, reading specialists, tutors, etc., team teaching with the general ed teacher. There'd be an SLP who would be itinerant to work within the classroom, as well as an SLP to do more specialized one-on-one. There'd be a behavior specialist who'd work with ALL the teachers to help figure out problems before a kid gets into trouble. Then there'd be the one-on-one specialists to do some of the intense stuff- maybe one an expert on autism, another a reading teacher, etc. The team co-ordinator teacher would get kids involved in team projects, encouraging collaboration. These proficiency tests that have our schools by the throat would not exist in their present form. There would also be " life skills " for ALL kids- budgeting, hygiene, some of the old " home ec " curriculum- beginning in grade school. Anyway, time to leave my little dream and get Ben to bed. Nonni is back home, but she is struggling with some anxiety and is begging me for more medicine. I keep talking up all of the relaxation tricks, as her body doesn't handle meds well and I suspect she is getting over the strong stuff she was on for the bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as the emotional turmoil of being away from home. At least the hospital bed arrived and has made her bedtime so much safer. Hallelujah! No worries about falling from the bed last night. I just wish she'd be able to get some good sleep. Me too! Later, friends... MB

Guest guest
Ane Thanks for the information now at least we know that a study or paper has been done on it. I know most Porphyria is genetic but supposedly the PCT my husband has was not gotten that way but caused from the Hep C. I will be looking more into that part of it now also. We see the dermatologist on March 13th and hoping he may have some answers for us then also but plan to find out as much as I can on the subject again before then. This dermatologist told him that once he got the liver healed ( and he is in remission with it) that he could help him with the PCT so maybe he will be our answer. Thanks again for your reply - I just love this group we are always there for each other and helps so much. Hope this finds you well. Guest guest
HCV/Porphria I asked a friend who has been involved with HCV for years and she says that the way to get relief from porphia is to give blood in a scheduled wayusually one liter at a time but this is not standard. By letting the blood it reduces the level of the porphians in the blood. She and a doc here in the NW did a paper on this combination of HCV and Porphia and HCV (they noted some substantial amount of occurrence) back in the very early 90's. Porphia is a genetic disease. Hope this helps. You might just search onthe web for more information, although she is very educated on this subject. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I want to thank you all for your comments on pregnancy and RS. I saw both my OB and my rheumatologist yesterday. My OB said she has patients with Reiters and has not witnessed any major concerns. She suggested I take it up with my rheum., which I did and she said that most arthritis patients of hers that have been pregnant, improved during the pregnancy. She also mentioned that although I am HLA-B27 positive, and have the sore feet and back doesn't necessarily mean I have RS, (it was another rheum. that diagnosed me with it. I stopped going to her because she told me I was refusing treatment because I wouldn't try MTX.) Anyway my new dr. said that if it's not RS or related, then MTX wouldn't help anyway. There is obviously something wrong and now I am back to square one in trying to find out what that might be. I will be trying a weeks worth of steriods to see if that helps. This is frustrating! I know you all know that already. I do appreciate those reaching out to offer their stories. I am so sorry that some of you are in so much pain, or dealing with the pain of a loved one. I hear God knows what he's doing and that we aren't dealt things we can't deal with. Thank you again! =) I will continue to read and write. Guest guest
Dear , I'd think an increase in IM would be a good idea given these numbers - plus testing for mutation ( Sawyers lab at UCLA does this; I don't know who else does) perhaps. I'm really sorry to hear of the increase - though with all the new drugs coming along, it's a far less ominous finding than it would have been even a year ago. Guest guest
To boost 's book ranking on NY Times list (which is the ultimate test of how a book is doing) that most reporters look at.... The best thing to do is order it from your local look store. The orders coming in is how the NY Times measures. So, call book stores in your local area (more than one if you can do it) and order two or three books from each. Those orders trigger sales records from all over the country and thus boost the ranking. Amazon ranking is good but NY Times is the premier place. Bono Message: 7 Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 02:37:31 -0000 From: "Dr. " <david@...> Subject: Re: Where to purchase EOH--Try Amazon to boost EOH's Ranking I think one of the best places to boost 's numbers is on amazon.com, which is widely used as a reference tool in the book industry. It's common knowledge that if you can get a significant number of people (100-200) to buy a given title within a 24-hour period, then that book's Amazon ranking can spike to the top, giving the book a prominent position on a lot of pages. A top Amazon ranking would also fuel the marketing engine at 's publisher. Caveat: If you wish to buy from Amazon to boost a book's ranking, be sure to buy it new from Amazon and not from one of the "Marketplace" affiliate vendors.
