Wow guys, didn't mean to bring such primordial fears to the surface,

was just trying to be rational and calm. :-) Fear, generally results from

the unknown. The way to squash fear in its place, is to reduce the

unknowns. Terrorism aside, I've always had a stash of food available.

Mom's canned goods when I was young, yucky ramen noodles in college, and

more elaborate foodstuffs as my resources have grown.

I would guess that people in the Mormon religion (I'm not Mormon,

but lived in Salt Lake City for 2 years) are more CRON like, than any other

large population group. They are taught to have a years supply of

foodstuffs set-aside. Certainly, the possibility of terrorism exist, but

& couldn't be more correct about it not being the most serious

threat.

It is the nature of humans to crave that which they do not have.

Not having food in the house, should cause incessant worry about food, that

would be rational. It would be calming, to have ample stores set-aside. It

is calming to not have to rely upon outside sources for essential survival

items. People without tools, resources, knowledge, & the ability to

comprehend, become scared and act irrationally.

Isn't this whole CRON topic really about freedom? The freedom to

choose how we live, how long we want to live, where we live, and what we

eat? You're welcome to believe that owning .22 shells is a foolish

investment. The doctor I spoke with at Mayo's is welcome to believe that

diet supplementation is best done with only a small, hard coated daily

multi-vitamin.

We filthy rich American's, suffer from gluttony. I believe our

" food gluttony " comes from many different angles, but not facing the fear of

food line disruption and doing something about it, is one of the primary

reasons the general population is fat. There is no food in the house, the

family leaves to go out to eat, nobody can talk to dad while he drives, the

food choices at restaurants stink, a waiter disrupts the table conversation

5 or 6 times per meal, the ambient noise makes it impossible for one end of

the table to hear the other, etc.. Two hours or more are spent each evening

with nothing accomplished other than having gotten a slight bit fatter and

less physically & emotionally healthy. The CRON lifestyle which might be

easier to describe as simply eating portion controlled home cooked meals

made from scratch, is psychologically sound, rational & calming. What our

general population is doing is irrational & disruptive.

Members of this list write continuously about what trace mineral is

likely to lengthen lifespan by 5 minutes, but generally miss the

psychological aspect that enables us to succeed in our lifestyles. Diets

don't work for the general populace, primarily because of psychological

reasons, not physiological ones, in my opinion.

Rant over.

See ya,

Brad :-)

Hello all,

I'd go along with the below, but in all seriousness, you're more likely to

have a problem by not washing your hands than anything else -- put aside

anti-bacterial hand gel! For putting aside food & water, do it for

earthquake & natural disaster preparedness -- it's *far* more likely than

terrorism, & who knows when you might need a canned turkey for guests...

I'll drop the issue now, but since mortality is the underground topic of

this list, it's worth mentioning every now & again that thoughts of death

have well-established effects on our reasoning, and they're generally not

conducive to rational thought.

Best,
