Guest guest
Sorry. Start at: http://www.ars-grin.gov/duke/index.html Then enter iodine in "Plants with a chosen chemical. " The list of herbs, etc that contain it will pop up. Kelp was the highest and pistachios were 51 ppm. that's 51 micrograms per gram, right? So an oz of pistachios is 28.35 times that or 1446 micrograms right? 1100 is the upper limit. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rodney Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 3:43 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Sodium/Cancer Hi Jw:Your third link here looks like it may be a comprehensive listing of the iodine content of foods. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Is there a way I can get to see it?Thanks.Rodney.
Guest guest
And considering that I like pistachios, 1 oz per day, this is a shock. But I want to see you eat 0.83 gm of anything spread over a month. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rodney Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 4:43 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Sodium/Cancer Hi folks:So, in short, the table posted by JW shows that the entire iodine requirement can be satisfied by MONTHLY ingestion of:0.83 g kelp, or88 g pistachios, or281 g soybeans, or ...........4.5 kg cinnamon.I hope I have gotten that right.Rodney. Guest guest
Great site Al!! And they seem to echo what JR says: not to worry too much. As JR repeated: moderation. Also keep your sanity - the vast majority of us don't need to sweat the small stuff (unless you clearly have a deficiency). on 3/24/2004 9:22 PM, old542000 at apater@... wrote: > PS: http://www.nutrition.org/nutinfo/ is good for information. Guest guest
Notice it says the MAXIMUM is 2400-3000 mgs. {thanks for that} The 2400 is usually calc by adding 2 standard deviations to the AVERAGE req't. So the 500mg makes sense. Even 500mg is impossible to get that low with regular foods. So moderate would be between 500 and 2400? Regards. Diet recommendations: The Estimated Minimum Requirement of Healthy Persons for sodium from the National Academy of Sciences ranges from 120 mg/day for infants to 500 mg/day for adults and children >10 years. Recommendations for the maximum amount of sodium that can be incorporated into a healthy diet range from 2,400 to 3,000 mg/day or 6 to 7.5 grams of table salt/day. ----- Original Message ----- From: Francesca Skelton Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 6:58 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Sodium/Cancer > PS: http://www.nutrition.org/nutinfo/ is good for information.
