Hello:

My family hates the taste of Red Palm Oil, so here it is in capsule form and

a reference as well.

Thanks Bonnie,

Palm oil has a fair bit of saturated fat in it; saturates don't

oxidize well. The other research I posted pointed out that the lower

the saturates in the diet the longer the lifespan due to the lower

oxidation rate of the mammal eating them.

Duncan:

So I guess I just wasted my time getting that reference. What you said below

is exactly the opposite of what Dr. Fife says about oxidation. That it is

good that these fats don't oxidize. I am very confused.

Bonnie, think of it this way: properly-extracted coconut oil has a

long shelf life because it doesn't oxidize very fast due to its high

saturated fat content. Conversely, more unsaturated oils like for example flax

seed oil undergo faster oxidation, which results in free

radical cascades in the body, which shorten lifespan.

I see what you mean, sorry about the typo. The lower the dietary

UNsaturates the higher the mammals lifespan, is of course what the

research says (deficiencies taken care of). This research and others

is on my website on the coconut oil page, which also contains that

peroxidation index, AKA the oil analysis worksheet.

All good,

Duncan,

Thanks for clarifying that... I was scratching my head, too! :-)

Duncan:

What you said below here is VERY UNDERSTANDABLE and I've read this before

that PUFA's cause free radicals because they OXIDIZE quickly. So if VCO

doesn't oxidise very fast, why isn't it more healthy for us?

Bonnie, I think VCO is healthy :) but you need some PUFAs.
