Guest guest
Some people can't help but do the brand thing. I've recently gotten into cycling and you ought to see the brand snobbery and wars in that field--Colnago folk ain't got no use for Cannondale. In computers the Apple people shake their heads at the poor benighted PC users. Thanks for trying to keep it from distracting us from helpful information, but I fear it'll be with us always. Guest guest
I wonder how many people actually do get a choice of cochlear implants anyway. As far as I know, we here in Australia only have access to the Cochlear device. And I would imagine that in the US, the surgeons would mostly determine which device they would fit and with AB being the American company, patriotism would come into it as well. When patriotism comes into it, whether it be here or there, one is not neccessarily getting the best device. A lot is being written about the AB 120 channels, but as far as I know, its still in the testing stages and will never be available to everyone that wears an implant already. At the end of the day, all that matters is that we hear better then we could before. Guest guest
Hi Ted ! I hope you are enjoying the seasons " down under " It is Summer here in the US, so it is probably winter now in Oz. You are right - not everybody gets a choice in their device. I was fortunate in that I was given a choice of all three, and had absolutely NO pressure from the clinic to pick one over the other. Many candidates (like yourself) do not get that choice. You are also absolutely 100% correct in that all that matters is that EACH one of us (with his or her device) hears better than before, allowing most (but sadly not all just yet) to connect with their world. For those considering an implant, that is the main thing to remember. I could NOT imagine ever going without my CI, and I have been activated less than 3 months !! What I used to consider " CI Moments " are now just a normal part of my life. And for those who are trying to get help in deciding whether or not to be implanted, and which device to use (if they do indeed have a choice), it is vitally important that they get the facts. Some of those people come to forums like this one, hoping to get facts. I know that I did. With that in mind, I do need to correct your statement that the 120 channel AB strategy will never be available to those who have an implant already. That is NOT true. The 120 strategy is designed for those who have CII implants or 90K implants, in fact it has been in trials with many people with both types of implants, so this is NOT just a " future " innovation, but is able to be utilized NOW by those already implanted. For me, I will get a free upgrade to the new processor & the 120 channel strategy when it is released (I was implanted in March of this year). I'll let you know when that happens & how it is going. Have a great weekend ! Regards, Jim S. > > I wonder how many people actually do get a choice of cochlear > implants anyway. Guest guest
Wow , what an EXCELLENT post and I agree completely! I actually wrote a rather long post last night about getting away from comparing brands period and lost it before i sent it. Thanks for this comment and agree completely! When I asked about the difference in results between the two brands offered (Cochlear, AB) they both said that patients were getting results too similar to differentiate and that the choice was really appearance and battery type. Guest guest
Hello Jim Yes, its Winter in Oz now. It doesnt get really cold where I live though, thank goodness. It sounds like you asre doing really well with your implant, tell us about some of your C'I> moments please. I can never read too many of these. I said the AB120 would never be available to everyone that wears an implant already. Is it backwards compatible with every device that AB has ever released, so that all previous implantees will get the AB120 strategy? If it is, I offer my apologies for a misleading statement. I hope you get your 120 pretty quickly and I look forward to your report on the differences, Jim. I watched the Neil Diamond 25th anniversary DVD of The Jazz Singer yesterday and the music sounded great with my Nucleus Freedom. I first watched it over 20 years ago. You have a great weekend too. We are all getting good devices no matter whether we have a choice or not. With us all being different as regards to our hearing, it will probably never be possible to actually compare the two main brands in a test drive, like you can with motor cars, because of having to have the other implant removed first. I cant imagine too many people would volunteer to give up something that was working for them, to trial something that may not treat them as well. On the other hand, there are probably some people who's progress didnt match their expectations, that might take the gamble? Personally, I am very happy with my Freedom. How are you going with yours now, Virg? Ted F.
Guest guest
From: Ted F. " How are you going with yours now, Virg? " Not as well as I'd like. :<) But far better than before the implant. I still avoid the phone unless I'm pushed into it. Instrumentals (some, at least) can be enjoyable but vocals sound like someone torturing a cat. I can understand most of what some newscasters on tv say without the captions but mostly I still need them. One on one conversations are fairly easy. Groups are still a problem. But I'm grateful for what I have and hoping for some better discrimination and music appreciation with the 120. Environmental sounds are mostly still a joy. The new ones, that is, such as the birds, etc. Thanks for asking. Virg

I'm much the same as regards the phone, I got out of the habit of using it. When I do use it I can hear better than I could with my hearing aids. I havent tried for a few weeks, I suppose I should :-) > Instrumentals (some, at least) can be enjoyable but vocals sound > like someone torturing a cat. As a fairly new recipient, have you been given any indication on how long it will be before you get the 120 strategy? I hope you get it very soon. > > Thanks for asking. Guest guest
Dear Ms Lucy, You can try Nature's Blessings Organic VCO! It's one of the best and purest VCO I have tried. Good-tasting, too. I have used it for years now. To cook with, to mix in salads, to take by the spoonful, for massage on hair and skin. They also have scented VCO using natural oils. Lavender, Rose, Citrus, Ylang-ylang, Jasmine and Sampaguita. It's given me more hair over the years--stronger strands and more black than whites. And of course, better health over all. go to www.naturesblessings.com.ph or email info@... to order It's also sold in other websites if you do a search. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Rose --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
