Guest guest
The higher carb veggies, besides potatoes, are: corn, peas, carrots (they have more starch/sugar in them). Probably beans. The South Beach Diet just cuts out fruit and allows eating of these higher starch veggies (unlike the Atkins diet) After two weeks, higher carbs like fruit are reintroduced . Sounds very gimmicky to me. The point is that after two weeks you are " cleansed " of your sugar/starch addiction. on 4/5/2004 6:28 PM, dowlic@... at dowlic@... wrote: > Leafy greens (romaine lettuce, kale, beet greens, etc.); peppers, red > and orange; celery, carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, spinach, and so > on. Guest guest
True- compared to avocado, my listed vegetables are 'higher' carb- but per serving, the total carb load (GL) is quite low for these compared with most other available foods. And the nutrient/calorie ratio is quite high, with abundant fiber. >From: " old542000 " <apater@...> >Reply- > >Subject: [ ] Re: Traditiona weight loss groups losing people >to low carb diets >Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2004 02:46:54 -0000 > > > > > > > > .................. emphasize low carb veggies .............. > >Hi All, > >Not really so level carbohydrates are in many of the above. Guest guest
Someone lent me their South Beach book (I'm skimming). The daily meal plans for Phase 2 show 1 -2 fruits, and 1 grain. The meal plans during Phase 3 (last phase) show 2 fruit servings per day, and 1 serving of grains. The person that lent this book to me has used this diet to lose 24lbs, & reduce total cholesterol from over 300 to 150. He says his doctor cannot believe the blood test improvement & has never seen anything like it. This is the story he's telling me, & I assume this is true. The one time I saw him eat, he choose the salad bar and grilled chicken. He did tell me he takes 1 fish oil capsule per day.
