I do a combination of things really based upon my experiences as a

parent. Just as with our son, I have kind of a pre-sleep ritual. A

hot bath, doing all the hygiene stuff, and then I read some short

stories (they are stand alone, can be read in under 30 minutes so you

don't tend to stay up late to finish.) I had read that a hot bath

will lower your blood pressure and I find after having the bath and

doing the other things that I'm in a very relaxed " sleep ready state " .

I follow the same ritual every night.

What I found with our child was that he slept soundly and without

protest if we followed the same ritual every night. I figured if it

worked for him, it would work for me. And, it has.
