Guest guest
Hi All, Personally, the literature I have seen suggests that EOD rodents are on CR. Level of CR determines health benefits. Rodents naturally will gorge on available foods. Humans may be different. We differ in our natural tendencies to find it easier to graze or fast. If we are in more extreme CR, it may be beneficial to reign it in as on becomes more susceptible to the slings and arrows of diseases. The same may be true for extreme CR, I believe. > > Interesting. > > > > Does he address this question: That is, " grazing' is supposed to be > > healthier than eating a large meal at one sitting? Guest guest
Hi Rodney, I migrated to a main meal at noon, a glass of milk to wash down my pills at brkfst, and a small meal at supper. That eliminates reflux at bedtime and excess retained fluid at bedtime. I will snack on prunes at 10AM, raisins at 2PM, maybe a glass of orange juice, but most of my 1800 kcals are at noon. The regimen works well when I go for a blood test, I just drop the brkfst since I'll be fasted since 7PM. I think the idea of a big brkfst was required from days when "we" worked the farms and couldn't get in before lunch. If you pick up a day laborer and expect him to work, get him a bacon, egg, cheese sandwich and a coke before work. I don't find anything on meal spacing and mortality or longevity, probably because I can't imagine the right search words in Medline. There is data on fasting in Modern Nutrition. The body can handle a day fasting easily, because it retains calories in the gut until you eat again. Regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rodney Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2004 1:01 PM Subject: [ ] Grazing versus Fasting Hi folks:This 'grazing versus fasting' issue is interesting, and I would like to try to satisfy myself about it. I too have been told over the years things like: "breakfast is the most important meal of the day"; "everyone should eat three square meals"; and "you shouldn't eat too much late in the day" and so on. But I have never seen anyone provide worthwhile evidence to support these views. On the other hand here I have seen regular full day fasting recommended. If anyone knows of experiments with mammals, using a mortality rate or average life expectancy end point, comparing identical food consumption but with, say, some fed three times a day, others once daily and others every other day only, it would be helpful to me to decide whether to try the 'one-meal-a-day' route. Since I am starting out healthy I am not convinced it would be a good idea to go hog-wild into something different from what I have been doing, without some reasonably persuasive evidence.Rodney.
