Norman , the grand old man who invented the Norwalk juicer, drank tons of raw spinach juice (high in oxalic) acid for more years than most of us have been alive. Guest guest
I remember hearing that oxalic acid causes pain in your muscles. spinach, chard, beet greens all have a lot of oxalic acid. can anyone shed some light on why this isnt supposed to be a problem for type Os? and if the answer is aerobic exercise.....does this mean that if Im not doing much in the way of aerobics, I may be having muscle pain due to oxalic acid?? I have never heard that, but have heard that lactic acid in the muscles causes pain. Those of us with FMS have too much and/or cannot easily rid the system of lactic acid, hence the pain. It is generated by lots of exercise in normal people. That is what makes your muscles sore after physical work or exercise. However that is what I feel like almost every day. Could it be that you simply have your acids confused? I would hate to think that there would be more things I cannot eat in order to become healthy! Guest guest
remember reading that, when juicing, too much apple was not a good idea as the liver would react to the oxalic acid creating a lot of bile. Somewhat vague in memory but perhaps someone else is sharper. Guest guest
Hi folks: This from a University of British Columbia publication regarding the oxalic acid content of foods: " Foods generally found on the list include: chocolate, cocoa, coffee, most berries (especially strawberries and cranberries), most nuts (especially peanuts), beans, beets, bell peppers, black pepper, parsley, rhubarb, spinach, swiss chard, summer squash, sweet potatoes, and tea. " http://students.ubc.ca/health/questions.cfm?page=6 http://snipurl.com/4wae Rodney. I wonder if this is accurate. If it is then we are likely much more deficient in vitamin C than we realize. Which could explain the rather high incidence of osteoporosis.

Regards. [ ] Fitday? I've been using Fitday for several months but in the past week (sincetheir new skin) the numbers seem very off. All of the sudden I amgetting 500% my rda of Vitamin K? Guest guest
According to largely anecdoctal references on the web (sorry, all that is available), suggests that cooking reduces a food's oxalic acid content. However, it also causes the lost of important minerals. Oxalic acid seems to have three major effects: reducing calcium and iron absorption and causing kidney stones to form. Lost of calcium and iron usually only occurs in the foods that contain the high oxalic acid, and not on the calcium or iron found in other foods concurrently eaten, according to the anecdoctal sources. Also, the various tables of oxalic acid on the web varies substantially from each other. Some specific food items have vastly different scores on different tables. Some foods are, however, high on all lists. For example beets and spinach and rhubarb. I usually have one servings of beets each day, usually in juice form. I also have one serving of spinach as well. I intend to cut back on my beet and spinach intake to avoid kidney stones. Can anyone find anymore of a definitive nature about the effects of oxalid acid other than these anecdoctal internet references? Especially on kidney stone formation? --- In , " jwwright " <jwwright@...> wrote: > > Something I hadn't noticed before is the Oxalic acid content of certain foods: > http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/Other/oxalic.html > > Any way to neutralize that in cooking? > > Regards. > > [ ] Fitday? > > > I've been using Fitday for several months but in the past week (since > their new skin) the numbers seem very off. For example: carrots, spinach, broccoli, tea, nuts, berries, garlic, onions, grapes, red wine, herbs, spices, and chocolate are foods known to be great antioxidants. We hear about flavonoids and vitamins. It is estimated there are 4,000 identified flavonoids. Isolating each one and determining what effect each, or a combination of each, has on a specific disease is an endless pursuit without an answer. However, common sense and research reveals there is one common denominator in the foods known as great antioxidants. They are all high in oxalic acid. Are you aware that every mammal on earth has oxalic acid as a normal blood value? Ask any doctor or researcher what its purpose is and the best answer they will give you is that it aides in bowel movement. So here we are with a surprisingly high quantity of oxalic acid running through our blood with no real purpose? There isn't a place on earth that a plant containing oxalic acid can't be found. Weeds are the most tenacious of all plants and are rich in oxalic acid. This is no accidental occurrence. There is purpose. Research oxalic acid and you'll discover it's a deadly poison. So, we have a deadly poison in all the foods that are great antioxidants. Huh? Stop and simply think. Rather than isolating the smallest compounds within foods and researching each, analyze each food known to be a great antioxidant and find the common compound in each. This is exactly what has been done by an amazing 85 year old warrior of a man deep in the hills of Arkansas. This man is Colonel Joe Hart. When is the last time you knew of anyone being granted a patent for anything natural? That folks, never happens. It has for Colonel Joe. He has been granted three (3) Patents for the Application of oxalic acid for treatment of cancer, bacterial and viral infections, and vascular diseases. Why isn't the medical community screaming its merits? I wonder if the fear that this would eliminate a trillion dollar yearly health industry have anything to do with it? Talk about an answer to our nation's health care crisis. Colonel Joe discovered the benefits of oxalic acid during 1992. Once oxalic acid was identified as the acid which kills cancer cells without harming normal cells, he was then able to identify what foods and environmental factors inhibited the therapeutic value of oxalic acid. His approach to eliminating disease by ingesting high oxalic acid foods, has resulted in cures of all kinds of cancer and disease. Do you need to pitch a tent in your backyard and live by a campfire? No. Is this going to cost a fortune? No. Do you need to travel to Mexico? No. Is the information freely given? Yes. There is always a sacrifice for gain. Prepare to give up milk and cheese, citric acid (an additive found in far too many processed and canned goods), red meat, cell phones, microwaves, and alcohol. If this proves too difficult, you can always go in for traditional surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy only to find that the cancer comes back eventually or you die. You do know doctor's never tell you you're cured......you're in remission. " Cure " is not in their vocabulary. Ask your doctor the next time you or someone close to you is diagnosed with cancer what caused it. They don't know. The answer is low levels of oxalic acid in your blood. Having adequate levels of oxalic acid in your blood eliminates all abnormal cells effectively with no harmful side effects. Oxalic acid is God's Poison With Purpose. If you seriously look into every alternative cancer cure that shows some success, you will find the foods, herbs, grasses, and teas they suggest all contain high amounts of oxalic acid. They simply don't know why their protocols sometimes work. Connect the dots people and stop throwing your money away. Ask the American Cancer Society about tests they conducted over 50 years ago using oxalic acid in the treatment of cancer in experimental mice. The papers and evidence of positive results exist; however, they will tell you they know nothing about it. Simply go to the grocery store, eat your chocolate, vegetables, fish, dark chicken, tea and wine. Toss out the microwave and cell phone. Say " No " to fast foods and truly enjoy eating your way to excellent health. Imagine never having to worry about getting cancer. Imagine treating cancer simply and inexpensively. Guest guest
, I would strongly suggest you join the trying low oxalates list. Trying_Low_Oxalates/ The article you posted about oxalates being a cure for cancer is nonsense according to all I have read. Below are a few snippets from the trying low oxalates list with regard to cancer. ***************************************************** Wouldn't it be interesting to find out that the present preference for " field greens " and spinach on salad bars and lots of nut foods could be raising the risks of cancer? It is way too early to say that, of course, but will the research be done to evaluate that risk and other risks that come from majoring on high oxalate foods? * Calcium oxalate crystals are common in renal disease; however, to our knowledge they have not been reported previously in renal cell carcinoma. We report two patients with papillary renal cell carcinoma and extensive calcium oxalate crystal deposition within the tumors. Both patients had end-stage renal disease and acquired renal cystic disease. Radiographic studies demonstrated calcifications in one case. Histologically, both tumors had papillary features and had numerous calcium oxalate crystals within cystic spaces and papillae. The presence of calcium oxalate crystals in these tumors is additional evidence that papillary renal cell carcinomas and acquired cysts may be related. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3725/is_199803/ai_n8792937/pg_1 While on a high oxalic-acid diet called " Colonel Joe's Cancer Diet " that was supposed to help cancer patients by " increasing and balancing the needed level of oxalic acid in the blood so the immune system can protect the body from various diseases " , cancer spread to my liver anyway and I was given less than 2 months to live. That was in 2002. http://theherbs.info/herbs2.html I hate to remind people of this, but there are people who say things on websites for effect (to get you to do something), and not for truth. There are probably as many " bad eggs " on the internet as anywhere else (and probably as many genuinely wonderful people, too). How are you going to know the difference? It is harder to be made to accept responsibility for claims made on the internet and probably most people have low standards. That is why it is wise to ALWAYS authenticate facts. This is why I so often post references myself. I don't want anyone to take my word for something but rather to look at the evidence yourself, and draw conclusions based on the evidence, and if you disagree about what the evidence means, then let's talk about why there may be differences in interpretation. The goal here on this list is to help people get rid of oxalate-induced disease. There is a good purpose to oxalate, and part of it relates to calcium storage even in our cells, but there is a lot about it we don't know yet. Our bodies can easily make oxalate, and oxalate's reabsorption is REGULATED by the kidneys, so we can recover some of it from the urine if the need arose. We don't need to worry about oxalate deficiency! Trying_Low_Oxalates/ ****************************************************************** ..
