Guest guest
Forty-one million Americans have pre-diabetes, a blood sugar level high enough to dramatically increase their risk of getting the disease, according to new government figures, which double previous estimates. The number leaped because doctors changed the criteria for diagnosing pre-diabetes after research showed that they were missing too many at-risk patients. " These latest numbers show how urgent the problem really is, " said Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. , who is scheduled to announce the new data at a meeting today in Baltimore. Guest guest
Hi Francesca: Do we know what the new glucose 'pre-diabetes threshold' level is? It would be interesting to know (and compare with my own). Guest guest
Hi Apricot: Here is one source, although the data are in mmol/l: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/bloodsugarlow.htm http://snipurl.com/63or Rodney. > > >Fasting Blood Glucose: > > > >Normal: < 100 mg/dl > > > >Pre-Diabetes: > or = 100 mg/dl to 125 mg/dl > > > >Diabetes: > or = 126 mg/dl > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Apricot: According to another source, blood glucose of 100 mg/dl = 5.6 mmol/l Rodney. > > >Fasting Blood Glucose: > > > >Normal: < 100 mg/dl > > > >Pre-Diabetes: > or = 100 mg/dl to 125 mg/dl > > > >Diabetes: > or = 126 mg/dl > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Apricot: So the threshold for hypoglycemia would appear to be about 45 mg/dl. But I could well believe that the 45 mg/dl may be the threshold appropriate for the general population, and it may not be appropriate for those on CR. Perhaps the listed of symptoms accompanied by glucose below 45 mg/dl may be a better criterion for those on CR???? (This is speculation on my part).
