Hi Grace, Dr. A and his crew really care and want you to suceed. The band bootcamp~ or liquid phase is so that your body ~stomach~ has time to heal and also gives the band time to set in place. Sometimes other folks just think they know more than their Dr.. Thank God we have such a caring crew with Nina Dr.A. and all the rest of this crew of professionals. Please be good to your band~cuz it will rule. I nor you probably have tons of money to throw away. If you do not follow the band rules you are only asking for problems. I will try my best to follow the rules, cuz I LOVE MY BAND~ hope you will take the best care of your band and your health. Deb gracesfalling <Gracefall@...> wrote: This may have been addressed before ... but I must have missed it. I was talking to a few people that have also have the band. 1 had it done in Mexico and 1 had it done here in the states. Both have been in the last 12 months. But They were commenting on my having to stay on clear liquids for so long, (really just going on and on about it and how it can't be good) as both of them were saying that they were told that they could go on what Dr. A calls full liquids a week after surgery ... cream soups, milk based protein drinks, pudding, etc. I said that my Dr. was just simply better and cared more about me than theirs did. And then I

slurped my chicken broth as loudly as I could for the remainder of the meal. Because sometimes it's more satisfying to behave as if you were a 5 then to try to talk to the stupid. But, I am wondering if any of you know of other Dr.'s who are as quick to move patients along? I'm starving and all and I really hate Jello weather it's with or without sugar. But the clear liquids make sense to me. Let me know what you know. Grace __________________________________________________

I'd say a big amen to that, if you trust your doctor to open your body, trust what he tells you to do after. Besides what can it hurt but you lose a few more early pounds anyway. You made a big nvestment in yourself, Take care of the investment so it can take care of you.

Jenni, Hi. I would like to add my two cents....I haven't had the surgery yet but with all the reasearch I've done here is what I have found....if your BMI is high they put you on what is called a liver shrinking diet for about 2 weeks. This is a liquid diet. Then, of course, you have the liquid diet after surgery. Hope this input helps. J Currie <giftedtch@...> wrote: I'm not really going to answer your question but I would like to add to what you said... A

local lady called me the other day to ask about the pre-op diet I was required to follow for Dr. Aceves. Now, mind you, this is NOT even someone I know but she heard that I had the surgery and have been very successful so she got my number and called me. I tried to talk some sense into her closed little mind several weeks ago before she signed the dotted line with the arrogant local doctors but I wasn't successful with that. Anyway, she said that her doctor wants her on a clear liquid 2 weeks BEFORE surgery and for 2 weeks afterwards! I silently said a THANK YOU GOD for Dr. Aceves!!! I really WOULD have killed somebody if I had to stay on clear liquids that long! Everyone is different. I just like to think MY surgeon is the one with the brains! Afterall, I trusted him wholeheartedly to do my surgery so I am going to trust wholeheartedly what he says to do. Yes, He can have the band placed. I have heard that some g-bypass people have a band placed during the initial surgery as a "back-up" Makes sense, if there small stomach starts to grow to large they can activate the band to help control portions again. I have a g-bypass friend who says "weight lost with bypass is directly related to how much intestines were removed during surgery." I guess thats why you may come across some "skinny" and some "larger" by-passers. My friend is still large after 2 years. She started around 450+ and is now about 280lbs. Which is nothing to sneeze at for sure! She looks and feels so much better and says she "not really trying to lose any more right now" She can also eat a regular sized meal like a 6 inch sub and fries. It's apparent that her stomach has grown but I think she's in a comfortable place right now, for her. She's only 28 and has no children, yet. I hope she continues her weight loss at some point. Just like the band, it's a tool that needs to be used. Hope your friend can continue to lose and if needed have the help of the band.

Dear a,

Try the following site/link:

https://www.ptcb.org/AM/Template.cfm?

Section=Exam_Preparation & Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm & ContentID=20

23

You may have to copy and paste it into your address window as it is

is very long.

There you will find the objectives for lerning about assisting the

pharmacists. It does include law, acquiring and documenting patient

information etc.

IF you toggle the site's links and menue you will info on all three

partsof the test. this info is basically in the PTCB Exam link

section under exam preparation.

Hope this helps,

Sharon,

When I remove my CIs to have a little quiet time and I'm with family or

friends, I ask them to tap me on the shoulder when they wish to communicate

with me. Then I retrieve my CIs -- I don't let anyone touch my processors

due to their expense and the fact that I can't see how they are being

handled. (I'm not criticizing anyone who allows their children, family or

friends to handle their processors. I'm just stating that this isn't

something I do.)

This would be interesting when and I meet some day. What if we

both want quiet time? Errr, I wont go there. LOL

I like my quiet time at home, but when I am out, its on all the time.

Of course, I dont allow Dreamer to come near my CI. ;)

LOL! How about tactile sign? (Not that I'm expecting us to enjoy any quiet

time. After all, you and I will be too busy enjoying mochas!)

I also don't allow Tigger near my CIs. When she wants to snuggle or give me

a hug, I always remove my CIs. Better safe than sorry!

AD's are known to 'poop out' after periods of time. Doesn't happen to all of us

but it does happen quite frequently.

Cymbalta is, in action, the same type of drug as Effexor just a different

chemical compound. Both work on both serotonin and norepinephrine. Which might

be why your doctor wants you to try it. I was one that needed the dual reuptake

inhibitor. You may be too.

How long have you been taking the Cymbalta? From what I've read it's the fastest

acting AD out there. Most people feel better within a week or so. And it's

supposed to work for anixety too. Not that it does for every person. The Lex may

or may not work for you as far as the anixety goes. The problem is that Lex is

not a dual reuptake inhibitor. It works only on serotonin.

Barbara

question

I took Effexor for about 9 years. It worked so well for a long time

and then its like it just stopped working so my doc switched me to

Cymbalta. My daughter is taking Lexapro but not long enough to see a

difference yet. I am wondering if Lexapro is better for depression AND

anxiety than Cymbalta. I dont even know if Cymbalta does anything for

anxiety. Has anyone used Cymbalta and then switched to Lexapro? I am

wondering if I should ask my doc to switch me again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Robin

Hi Barbara,

Thanks so much for your response. I have been taking Cymbalta for a

couple of months now and while I think it does help the depression I

still feel anxious alot of the time. That's why I was wondering if

Lexapro would work better than Cymbalta. Do you find that Lexapro

really helps your anxiety?

Thank you,

Robin

I took Celexa which is the parent drug of Lex. It really didn't help me. It

turned me into a zombie for 14 months. When my dad died I couldn't even feel

enough to grieve for him. It was a year later, after about 8 months off the

Celxa, before I could grieve for him. I had a lot of breakthrough anxiety with

Celexa and a very flat feeling otherwise. I know for alot of people Lex does

work for their anxiety. For me, Effexor XR worked miracles. I simply needed a

dual uptake drug.

It would seem to me that after this long on Cymbalta if it's not controlling

your anxiety it's not going to. Might be time to try a different drug.

However, I have a question this time. A young friend of mine (40s)

has been diagnosed with CLL or maybe SLL, has no marrow involvement,

WBC too low for her to participate in a clinical trial on green tea

at Mayo Clinic, told at Moffitt (Tampa, FL) to get a good oncologist

in her hometown and watch and wait - BUT - she has VERY swollen

glands in neck. Apparently she is ok everywhere else. The glands do

not prevent her from swallowing, but they are of concern to her and

uncomfortable just from their size.

>

chemo? I think I remember someone had success with prednisone? or

Rituxan? What about radiation? Any information is appreciated.

Perhaps this is a good question for our medical expert. Bettie

good morning brother,

Exectly these are part of getting attach themselves

with God. u know basically in my view is

concentration is the only way to feel god and

meditation is the best tool in this direction. All

our religious saying express that u can find god in

yourself. u need not go anywhere. slowly u need not

meditate yourself or need not to take help of music.

these are the only small ways to just move there.

Hello Friends

I am Manisha Bansal from Sunnyvale, CA. I am a Reiki, Karuna Reiki

Master teacher.I also conduct sessions in guided meditation and laya

yoga. I have been a silent member of this grop for long time. I

really like reading the inspiring quotes here.

I think the true pathway to God is surrender. With surrender arises

Samadhi deeper aspec of meditation an in Samadhi you achieve oneness.

In from that oneness arises eternal music. That music gives birth to

the Music in expression.

And Bhakti. Bhakti and surrender.

Hi Rebekah,

I'm five weeks post-op; my scar is completely healed and barely

noticeable. The ear drainage/weeping stopped about two weeks ago.

I'm still on ear drops, and from what I understand, I will be for

another month or so. I'll know for sure when I go in for a recheck

next week. My ear and scar area can be touched, moved, etc, just like

my " good " ear, which I attribute to daily desensitizing. The only

thing I consider a hassle is plugging my ear with the cotton ball and

Vasoline when I take shower, which looks like a must for the rest of

my life. Yesterday, I went and got fitted for a custom made " swim

plug. " This will eliminate the gooey Vasoline plug and allow me to

swim again. Can't wait to get it! Needless to say, I think you'll be

fine six weeks post-op.
