Debbie,

I'm wondering just what the particular pattern this antenna is projecting.

Possibly being this close might mean a lower strength signal than if you were a

little further away. Have you taken any measurements?

all.

30kHz is not TV.

30kHz is a common switch mode power supply frequency.

How do you know you have 30kHz?

Hi all,

?

Sorry if I had the wrong information!? :)? Here's their wikipedia page where I

got that info on the right side under transmitter power ~

?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTHR

?

thanks for any thoughts or how I could find out what i need to know ~

30 KiloHertz is not TV. The lowest VHF TV channel, 2, broadcasts at a

frequency of 54 MegaHertz (plus a tiny number for the bandwidth, to be

more precise.)

How bad is it to be near a TV station? There is a chart for the Sutro

Tower in San Francisco on one of the SmartMeter videos, where the risk

of cancer is shown being 18x at 1/2 mile, down to 4x at 5 miles.

Search for the Sutro Tower Childhood Cancer Study by Dr. Neil Cherry, in

2002.

I had a relative in Ferndale get sick after she moved next to the local

FM radio station.

I wouldn't advise living near those, even though the broadcast is

analog, and not the worse digital.

None. No antenna sending out RF on a frequency is _intending_ to make

magnetic waves.

The only technology that transfers data by magnetics, is the head used

in a VCR, old tape deck, or hard drive.

Now having said that, with a gauss meter, magnetic fields can be

measured from audio speaker coils, but only within about one inch. My

knowledge is that RF antennas would be similar, with the magnetic effect

being very short range.

thank you so much Marc and everyone!  as you can see I am very ignorant of many

things...so how bad is this Kilowatts--30?  just sited some info in a

video I need to go find....

Re: 30kHZ TV tower

  That's 30 kiloWATTS, not kiloHERTZ... :-)

Since it's broadcasting on UHF channel 46, that means the frequency is around

663 Mhz.

Hi Debbie,

Don't fret it. Learning is something we all must do, so every question

is a good question, and can help the rest of us learn too.

30 kiloWatts is the amount of power, thirty Thousand Watts is a big

light bulb. Unless you're an engineer, knowing the power ratings is like

techno-babble. But the detail that does need explaining, is that each

frequency band requires a different level of energy to reach the same

distance, due to the wave Length.

The cell phones and WiFi I have been most concerned about, only

broadcast with 1 watt of power. But for the shorter wave lengths, that

is appropriate. Smart meters are up to 2, and even 3 watts. This is

apparently why they are causing so much trouble, trying to reach out

more distance, thus affecting more people at a faster rate. Cell phones

down at 900 MHz can reach several miles. Each brand being different, so

I am certainly generalizing some numbers.

Down at 30 MHz, CB radio, 5 watts is normal power to be FCC compliant,

and keep the broadcast radius down to about several miles.

Over around 1000 KHz, AM radio, 50,000 Watts (50kW) is maximum power

during the day to keep the radius from interfering with other stations

on the same frequency, several hundred miles away typically.

See how knowing the broadcast power does not make a simple translation?

I do know Spokane TV stations, before they went digital, were barely

viewable here, or required a good antenna, at 90 miles away. KHQ on VHF

channel 6 broadcasts at 1000 kW.

KREM on VHF channel 2 broadcasts at 893 kW.

Those frequencies are a bit lower than your station, so these numbers

still may not compare evenly.

Ah, here is a good link, to see what is on the Sutro Tower.

http://www.sutro.org/Pages/stations.html

So I would guess 30 kW is not as bad as other major stations.

Anyway, when I read Super WiFi will reach 62 miles, it really asks how

many watts of power those towers are going to pump out, not to mention

each Home transmitter, to communicate Back to that tower. Eeeek!

It is on the EMR DVD I'm practically giving away. or you can do a search

from the research I quoted. Here is one link that presents the data

well, in fact it is a good read for all:
