Guest guest
Al did use an unfortunate choice of words. Also, I didn't get the point. Is the power bar loaded with calories? Guest guest
Hi folks: Well what I got out of Al's link was that his wife was a 'nutritionist' and he died of a heart attack at a rather early age. This very much reinforces my previous views that are based on 'nutritionists' and 'dieticians' I have encountered. I have no idea where they get their qualifications from. But my impression has been that it would be dangerous to follow much of their advice. Rodney. > > > Oh yeah, I really " enjoy " hearing about some person's untimely death! Guest guest
Hi All, See: http://www.powerbar.com/ http://www.powerbar.com/Products/ http://www.powerbar.com/Products/Harvest/about.asp http://www.powerbar.com/Products/Harvest/ " INGREDIENTS: ... Sugar, Salt, and Evaporated Cane Juice Syrup " appears to not be CRON. 250 calories each appears to be not very high. Vitamins and minerals are maybe better from a variety of fruits and vegetables. For example, vitamin E is better from a company such as AOR, since their product likely contains only the alpha form. Cheers, Al Pater. > Al did use an unfortunate choice of words. Guest guest
The power bar was designed for getting marathon runners through the so called " wall. " Or it might be appropriate for an after work out recovery food for a body builder. Who wants to get carbs and protein into his cells lickity split. Whether is did this or not would is scientifically testable. It does not seem appropriate for CRON. When do you need a massive carbohydrate rush followed by an insulin rush? This fellow's death sounds like a case of too much of a good thing - exercise - another testimony for moderation. > > ... > > > This very much reinforces my previous views that are based > > on 'nutritionists' and 'dieticians' I have encountered. Guest guest
That depends on the person it effects. SCD is a real issue, IMO, as is anorexia. Guest guest
FWIW I don't believe that PowerBars or the like are intended to be health foods. To replenish glycogen stores depleted by strenuous exercise the effective strategy involves quickly boosting blood sugar immediately after or even during the later stages of endurance training. I don't doubt that the general population associates such training aids with health (incorrectly). Since some exercise bars include protein and other nutrients, some people may even consider these for convenient meal replacements. However the high GI carbs which are better for glycogen replenishment are in direct opposition with healthy eating which prefers lower GI carbs.
