Guest guest
Greetings Cronlings. To add my 2 cents on this discussion about gas and what causes it. I agree with C.Dowling who states it may not nex. be the quantity of cals consumed but rather the type. According to a leading endocrinologist- Dr. Schwartzbien (may the schwartz be with you) she states that gas is caused by improper food combining. Particularliy if you combine more acidic foods with the more alkaline. ie: fruit eaten with anything else is not such a hot idea (unless of course- you want to fill up a hot air balloon). If you eat fruit with other foods- consider your new nickname to be: SBD " silent but deadly. " This is why we should wait approx 20 minutes after we have fruit before we eat anything else and also wait at least 2 hours after eating protein carb or fat before you have fruit. (ie: for dessert or whatevah). As for beans- not sure about other foods- but if you soak beans (either dry or canned) in a bowl of water overnight- it will wash off the enzyme or sugar substance that causes gas. Also- regarding the discussion about the people on the ship who went without food or drink and started to release poo balls- me thinks the teeny terd globes would be more or less do to dehydration- not nex. lack of food. Afterall, I can recall times myself where altho I was still consuming food- clearly was not taking in enough liquids- as I was sporting the ol' rabbit terd pellet routine. Not fun. Apparetnly those who have participated in colonics could attest that even after fasting on nothing for weeks- they still let go of large amounts of dried or impacted fecal matter. eww. Speaking of which - has anyone hear had success with a colonic? Is it much different from an enema? I realize that if one is already taking in enough fiber and has a bowl movement a few times a day- there really is no need for such means of elimination- but for the purpose of a fresh and cleaned out system- has anyone tried this? or found it effective? Guest guest
Read a book many years ago, whose title I can't remember (and am too lazy to search for) that's basic premise was that a person should eat in a fashion similar to our remote ancestors (ORA). For example eating protein and fats works very well and goes easy on the stomach since ORA probably ate everything from the game animals that they were able to obtain including all protein and fat. The book theorized that the stomach was never developed (designed) to digest all types of foods simultaneously since ORA seldom had all kinds of food available at the same time. This seems to work for me. I try to keep the protein with the fats separate from the veggies, and consume fruits separatly from all the above. Just eat like a caveman would. Also I seem to remember that most cows have four stomachs which are all necessary to digest grasses. I try not to overtax myself eating too much grass-like food because these are also hard to digest for me since I only, as far as I know, have one stomach. Read a fairly serious science article once that claimed that the large dinosaur herbivores (many, many times as large as your standard cow) may have contributed to their own extinction due to global warming caused by the huge amount of greenhouse gases they produced. In other words they may have farted themselves to death. Sorry - just had to include that. Will try to stay more on topic from now on. Guest guest
Well, I feel for the dinos! My experiment with Beano has been a rather explosive failure! For me, at least, the stuff is a huge waste of money (dang pricey stuff!). --- In , " aequalsz " <aequalsz@y...> wrote: > > > > > > > Despite all those stomachs, cows still have gas, apparently: > > > > > > http://www.cnn.com/2000/NATURE/07/21/cow.methane.enn/ > > > > > > > > You think cows have a problem. Guest guest
The black balls were after several weeks of refeeding in a hospital, not during their starvation. Their bodies absorbed everything. Of course WHAT they were fed I don't recall that being discussed. Read the book by lowell , The wreck of the Dumaru. ----- Original Message ----- From: lifesized_barbie Sent: Sunday, May 23, 2004 1:05 PM Subject: [ ] A Gassy Lassy Is Not Very Classy Greetings Cronlings.
