Guest guest
From: Francesca Skelton <fskelton@e...> Date: Sat Apr 10, 2004 8:00 pm Subject: Re: [ ] Licorice bob: where do you get your DGL? As one of the senior CRONIES, I'd be interested.... --------------------------- The DGL that I have is mady by Enzymatic Therapy, www.enzy.com, serving size 2 tablets, 100 tablets to a bottle; it says that DGL is Glycrrhiza glabra) Root Extract 3:1, so I guess DGL is a good product for our purposes since it is the licorice root extract, without the component that raises blood pressure. I may have purchased mine from Beyond a Century www.beyond-a- century.com/ This was a while ago---I purchased 2 bottles. Now I see that Beyond a Century (BAC as many affectionately call them) carries a pure powdered DGL (they are known for carrying a lot of pure powders, which I like, because you avoid all the fillers that are part of every tablet--I'm sure you've noticed that almost all tablets have stearic acid, magnesium stearate, etc..) Here is the current product that I see on the BAC website: " LICORICE, DGL. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice std. powder (<3% glycrrhizinic acid), used for centuries to protect from or treat peptic and gastric ulcers by increasing prostaglandins which protect the stomach lining. Said to be beneficial for heartburn and other gastrointestinal problems. DGL must be " chewed " (mixed with saliva) to be effective. Sweet taste. 100 grams, $6.40. Code 850.8 " I like the Enzymatic Therapy product, as it " appears " to be very high quality, although I have absolutely no basis for this belief. When I run out, I'll probably try the beyond a century product. DGL is commonly available. You shouldn't have a problem finding it. I'm going to start taking it regularly now, as opposed to only taking it when I eat very late and go to sleep right after eating (BTW, I have found DGL to be very effective in preventing gastroesophageal reflux, which I have occasionally experienced when eating quite late and then going to sleep---I've never had it when I took 2 tablets of DGL). I came to know of it from Dr. Weil's newsletter. In Dr. Weil's Self Healing newsletter, in the October 2003 issue, he presents " 13 digestive remedies, " one of which is DGL. I have also read about it in his newsletter prior to the October 2003 issue. It says 'DGL....is an effective remedy for heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disease, ulcers, and gastritis.' You just chew it very slowly and thoroughly mix it with saliva to activate it. rjb112@...
